** I find hope here, and something we can do (see last paragraph) to
effect change in "their" system; I believe the technology is there now, for
this.

At 23:26 29/06/99 -0700, John Short wrote to PF, a week before he died:
>Nan Hildreth wrote about Flo, an elderly person:
"Flo seems to plead for our helping her find the courage to try to
reconnect with our huge national [economic] system. A plea for a common
vision of hope."
>
>******************************************************************
> Nan,
> The "common vision" already exists. It exists in the minds -- and
especially in the feelings -- of people who are no longer idealistically
connected to our "huge national [economic] system". It is not courage to
reconnect that "we" are looking for, it is the courage to stay apart -- at
least in our vision. The common vision of hope that we share is that of
the traditional American Dream: Independence, Freedom, Equality -- Life,
Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
> Millions of us have lost a lot of our independence, our freedom, our
equality and our health. But we have not completely lost our Lives, our
Liberties and our Pursuit of Happiness. As long as we do NOT throw in the
towel, quit, do a cowardly "about-face", manufacture some plastic courage
and crawl back through the mud and filth to a "Reconnection" we have a
chance to gain back most of our Independence, Freedom and Equality -- even
if it takes two jobs -- but not if it hampers the best education we can
imagine for our children.
> Remember that this is a Nation of Laws, and new Laws can be added and
old ones changed and undoubtedly will be added and changed -- added and
changed by "our" votes -- Flo's votes -- grassroots votes -- majority votes.
> The ORDER of the day? Get to work on identifying and changing the
laws that need changed or creating the laws that are missing and need to be
written and brought to a vote.
> For instance, how about a law that provides for a grassroots public
television network that is set up for local, regional, national, world-wide
debate tournaments on identifying and changing laws and adding laws? A
reasonable law that provides for any citizen's participation?
