I would like to invite all here -- from regulars to lurkers -- to share pieces of their personal stories of how they became searchers for a positive future. > · It actually began when I was living in eastern Ontario during WW-II in our MacClement family stone farmhouse. I remember swimming underwater in the summer in Collins Bay (Lake Ontario) near our stone dock. I was too skinny (always have been) to swim on the surface and found spending as long as I could, down on the bottom, quite interesting - there was life going on down there in a very different world from my own. · Also in those early-1940s years, I would occasionally visit a French speaking small family in a shack near our "farm" gate - my mother tried to discourage me - and again came to realise that there were people living lives and speaking a language very different from mine. · Later, after arriving in New Zealand, one of my household jobs (do kids have these any more?) was looking after our family's small flock of bantam chooks, when I was about 11. · They clearly had a society of their own, their own interpretation of the world and others' actions. At the right time of year, I would give them the treat of shooting cicadas with my BB-gun (Red Ryder, lever action, .144 lead shot). I had only one chance so got quite good at it. The way the chooks would rush over to me when they saw me with that gun lightened my heart. · I'm a bit late writing this (lunch and that other job, today), so I'll probably continue (spiders, worms in compost heaps, and lots more) another time.
