About 3 years ago I trained myself to walk 100 km in 3 days (attempting to
take part in a 1000 km walk {"hikoi"} in protest at the right-wing policies
of the 1990s government). On two of the days I walked 40 km in about 6
hours (6.5 hours if you include my lunch break). And they left me very
tired and sore.

This is obviously long-distance walking, not what Stan was talking about,
but in miles per hour that's just over 4 miles per hour; I'm still the
fastest walker around here when I'm on my own. At least equal to the
"power-walkers" doing it strictly for exercise. So David A's right.
