[pf] a hopeful thought: 6.0 billion making 0.3 billion a pariah.

· I've just been putting an item on my March Environmental news page (the
complete version before excerpting), talking about a Thai farmer. After
using coconut oil for cooking, Kitti filters the oil and adds a small
amount of kerosene - one part per 20 [ie. 5%] - to give it a little extra
"kick" - then uses it in the diesel engine of his truck. It's not only
renewable, but sustainable since the CO2 released into the air was earlier
taken out of the air by the coconut tree.

· I was then thinking: "one suggestion already made is that the current
version of the Kyoto Protocol (aimed at reducing CO2 emissions to ~5% below
the 1990 level) /could/ be signed and ratified by the other nations,
leaving the USA to sulk on its own.

· An objection to this plan is that the US producers wouldn't have to abide
by the limitations on fossil-fuel use that all the other nations would
(since the US hadn't ratified it and created the consequent laws and
regulations), leaving similar producers outside the US at a competitive
disadvantage.

· My new thought was: "to bring the US into line with the rest of the
world, all everyone (6.0 billion of us) has to do is threaten (and carry
out, if necessary) a boycott of US products; after all, 0.3 billion
/shouldn't/ be able to dictate to 6.0 billion people!"

· There's nothing special about the US; others can provide all the goods
and services just as well, even if they /might/ be slightly higher priced.

David.
