· Every midday we hear the forecast for the whole of New Zealand until the
fifth day from now. It takes about 3 minutes to get through it (after the
12:30 news summary) on our National Radio (no ads). Just FYI.

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to
midnight Tuesday:
Situation: A low just west of the North Island is drifting east today. A
moist southeasterly flow affects the east coast of the South Island. The
low slowly drifts east tomorrow and Sunday and a cold southeasterly flow
affects the country. Southwesterlies affect most places on Monday as a high
builds in the Tasman Sea. A cold southerly change is likely to the South
Island on Tuesday while southwesterlies continue in the far north.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO,
WAITOMO, TAUMARUNUI, TAUPO: Showery today with isolated thunderstorms from
Hamilton northwards. Further showers tomorrow, showers clearing on Sunday
and becoming fine, southerly winds. Cloud and fine breaks on Monday with
southwest winds. A few light showers along the west coast on Tuesday,
mainly fine elsewhere.
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI, MANAWATU and KAPITI COAST:
Showers or drizzly rain today. Some snow to the Desert Road tonight with
southeasterlies freshening. Showery and cold tomorrow with snow to the
central plateau and also the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges. Showers about
Taihape on Sunday and also near the main ranges. Long fine breaks
elsewhere. Fine on Monday. Cloud and fine breaks on Tuesday with some late
rain and northwesterlies.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Patchy rain today. Showers and a cold
southerly change likely about Wairarapa later. Rain tomorrow with heavy
falls possible south of Napier after dark. Snow likely to the main ranges,
southeast winds. Rain easing to showers on Sunday a few further snow
flurries about the ranges. Showers becoming confined to areas north of
Wairoa on Monday, cloud and fine breaks elsewhere. Southwest winds. Mostly
fine with westerlies on Tuesday.
WELLINGTON: Rain today. Southerlies strengthening later and becoming
strong late in the day. Showery and cold tomorrow and Sunday with snow to
the Rimutaka ranges. Cold strong southerly winds. Showers clearing on
Monday and becoming fine with southerlies easing. Cloudy periods on Tuesday
with northerly winds.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Rain today and tomorrow with heavy falls about the
Kaikoura coast. Snow to the Kaikoura ranges above 500 metres. Southeast
winds strong near Cook Strait. Rain easing to showers on Sunday, becoming
fine about Nelson. Mostly fine on Monday. Fine at first on Tuesday then
late showers and southerlies possible.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain easing to showers today. Long fine
breaks south of Hokitika. Showers and fine breaks north of the glaciers
tomorrow, mainly fine about Fiordland. Southeast winds. Mainly fine on
Sunday. Cloud and fine breaks on Monday, a few light showers about southern
Fiordland though. Southwest winds. Showers and cold southerlies spread
north on Tuesday with some snow to the ranges.
CANTERBURY: Rain today and tomorrow with heavy falls about North
Canterbury and snow above 4-500 metres. Southeast winds continuing. Rain
easing to a few showers about South Canterbury tomorrow. Becoming fine and
frosty on Sunday. Cloud and fine breaks on Monday with southwest winds.
Showers and cold southerlies develop on Tuesday with snow to the alps and
main ranges.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Showers today with a few snow flurries to low levels,
southeast winds. A few showers about the Otago coast tomorrow, becoming
mainly fine elsewhere. Becoming frosty inland at night. A few coastal
showers on Sunday and Monday. Fine and very frosty inland. Showers and cold
southerlies on Tuesday with snow to low levels.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain developing today. Rain and easterlies tomorrow then
showers and southerlies on Sunday and Monday. Cloud and fine breaks on
Tuesday with westerlies.
