At 10:52 16/02/00 -0800, Bill Ellis sent on:

>Belonging is scientific fact; and, belonging is more than scientific fact.

** I agree with much of what Bill forwarded, but although I'm no defender
of technology I do believe science is a codified version of an intrinsic
and essential feature of many mammal and bird species, and the human
species in particular:
curiosity; wanting to know more about the physical world around us.

** So I almost always object to: "... is scientific fact", particularly
when a main aspect of "..." is /not/ a part of science.

** Here, "Belonging is .. - being in partnership with - being responsible
for" states that the concept has a large ethical component, which is /not/,
to me, part of a description of the physical world around us.

** People seem to use "... is scientific fact" in a similar way to "... is
in the Bible"; telling me that I'm supposed to accept it without question.
A bit like a modern version of magic: you can't know, so just believe what
I'm telling you.

** And in general, I react negatively to straight assertions: "A _is_ B",
with no attempt to justify the statement, to show /why/ it _is_ so.

** Something else; I think:
€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€
is a string of the character which has been adopted as the symbol for
the Euro, the European equivalent of the Dollar: € .
