[pf] 'throwing the garbage out'

· In that previous e-mail, I was only partly pointing out the warts on the
face of organic food.

· More importantly:
I was pointing out that when _people_who_buy_a_lot_of_"stuff"_ throw our
the garbage, it hasn't "gone away".

· The plastics in the garbage are likely to come back to haunt them, in
their food. As POPs. So /everyone/ can do their bit to reduce pollution, by
accepting less plastic packaging, and for the activists, agitating
_not_to_have_ an incinerator, or if there already is one, to have it shut
down.

· If this means people have to pay more to have their garbage removed,
especially if the size of the garbage charge increases with an increasing
amount of garbage from each household, so much the better.
Throwing out less garbage _is_ under the control of each individual.

· Below is bits from a note on this I wrote to the Frugal-Ed list in mid-1998.

our Green Circle Farm constitution has in its preamble:

The Constitution of Green Circle Farm (Ltd.)

The "Green Circle" can be thought of as a round table where we, as friends
with a common vision, gather together as equal partners. This circle is
not intended to be exclusive, but open to welcome other like-minded people
who wish to participate. A complete circle, like a ring, represents
integrity.

"Green Circle" also refers to Barry Commoner's "Closing Circle". Our
vision of a truly sustainable lifestyle therefore recognises "that there is
no away", and that all use of resources must be considered in terms of a
complete cycle.
