Positive Futures VS:: Voluntary Simplicity chat room?

Voluntary Simplicity chat room?

Leigh and John Conran (ecologue@adelaide.on.net)

Hi all,

Happy New Year! I hope this is a year in which we all feel we can achieve
some steps on our personal paths towards simplicity, frugality, or living
more lightly on the earth (which is my goal) :o)

I have a suggestion I'd like to put to you all. I'm making some lovely
friends from this list, and I for one would love to chat to you in
person. I also work for one of the biggest chat servers on the net, Talk
City, and it seemed appropriate to ask whether anyone would be
interesting in joining in a regular chat session once or several times a
week? I do this with people from a dog breed list I used to be on - I no
longer receive that list, but I still chat with my friends every week :o)

Before I go about registering a room, I'd be interested in a virtual show
of hands to see if any of you would be interested in taking part. We
could decide between us which time of day and day of week would suit the
majority - I'm in Australia, but I do most of my hosting through the US
latter afternoon and evening, so those times would suit me better.

If you're curious to find out about Talk City, check out their website at
http://www.talkcity.com . You can use Talk City's own java chat client,
EZTalk (I recommend Pro over Lite, although Pro takes forever to load,
esp. on non-PC machines), or you can use WebTV to chat, or computer users
could download a chat-specific software (Talk City has its own freeware
version of the popular PC chat software, pIRCh) - for PCs, look for pirch
or mirc, or ircle for Macs. I can help you out with download sites, or
just do a search on those names in your web browser.

Talk City is the biggest online community site on the web, with
partnerships with the Cox cable network, NBC and the Hearst Publishing
Group. It's also a fantastic place to chat in a safe, hosted, friendly
environment. There are a couple of rooms I don't dare go in, but the
whole thrust of Talk City is community on the web, not just a place to
chat, and they have from the outset aimed to be a "clean, well lighted"
place to meet new folks. Also, 50% of their users are female, which is
VERY unusual in chat servers!

End of commercial :o) I've been hosting with them for over 2 years now
and I love it! I've made so many new friends in the parenting, youth (I
do a lot of environment and spirituality discussions in the teen/youth
room), pet, food and arts forums that I host in, that I'd LOVE to meet
some of you in real time too!

Looking forward to a forest of virtual hands :o)
