| Job Descriptions: *Commander *Senior Vice-Commander *Junior Vice-Commander see the DAV "Chapter Officers Guide" booklet *2nd Junior Vice-Commander + (request to see a copy from any of these officers) *Treasurer Adjutant Chaplain Responsible for opening and closing prayer at meetings. May be asked to represent the chapter at funerals of deceased members. Responsible for sending sympathy cards and visits ill members or their family who are ill. (from: Chapter Officers Guide) Sergeant-at-Arms Assists the Cdr. in preserving order during meetings. Verifies membership when necessary (during elections, in matters protecting personal rights, etc.). Responsible for physical arrangements at meeting hall before and after meetings. (from: Chapter Officers Guide) Officer of the Day Officer of the Day controls the sign-in sheets at meetings. Introduces official visitors when called on by the Cdr. Escorts visitors and others to and from the podium when so directed. (from: Chapter Officers Guide) Publicity Officer The Publicity Officer works to get our Chapter name out to the public with newspaper articles and radio announcements. Historian Helps with special projects pertaining to Chapter 28 activities (from an historical record perspective) as may arise. Entertainment Officer Coordinates responsibility for the buffets/meals for monthly meetings. Helps set up/break down same. Other special entertainment activities/projects as required. Color Guard (2) Posts and retires the Colors at meetings. Carries the Colors at parades. Legislative Officer Monitors important legislation that affects veterans. Prepares letters to elected officials for members to sign and mail off. Hospital Person Works with the Chaplain in keeping track of hospitalized veterans in our area, inquiring as to their needs, and passing along this information to the Chapter. Someone who goes to the Topeka VA somewhat regularly. Service Officer Helps chapter members and other veterans get the medical help, and any other needed assistance, that they are entitled to, and any other assistance that they can be pointed toward. Must be Dept. trained and certified. SEC Member The chapter State Executive Committee member will attend those meetings and report to Chapter 28 what is going on at Department level (held at different locations around Kansas). SEC meetings are held before and after the Department state convention and two other times during the year as the Department sets. There are chapter funds budgeted for gas/mileage reimbursement. 1st District Representative The 1st Dist. (of which Chap. 28 is a part) rep. will attend those meetings as they are called by the Dist. Commander (usually quarterly, at a location within the district area) and report to Chapter 28 what is going on at district level. There are chapter funds budgeted for gas/mileage reimbursement. Newsletter Editor Helps prepare and mail the Chapter newsletter. Steps include preparing the newsletter text, running off copies, sorting pages, folding, taping shut, applying address labels, putting in zip code order, and mailing. |
