Greetings
after a long absence. The newsletter
editor is a full time student which leaves little time for much of anything
else.
We
will be nominating officers for the election in April.
Commander,
Sr. Vice Commander, Jr. Vice Commander and Treasurer. The Adjutant has advised this will be his
last term, so we need someone for that appointed position.
Commander
Adzima is announcing that business cards are available. Come to the March meeting to obtain yours.
W
gained two new members at the February meeting and we have a transfer in. We are getting there slowly but surely. Thank you for your persistent attention to
increasing our active membership.
We
are planning some really fun activities to let

With the permission and approval of our acting
Commander, Ilean Dennis, this letter is being directed to all Senior Members of
St. Augustine Unit #6, DAVA.
Our Unit Standing Rules state that April is the month
for our annual election at which time Unit Officers, a State Executive Member
and an Alternate Member, as well as Delegates to the State and National
Conventions will be elected.
This letter will serve as said notification, however
the current year has been a difficult one and decisions need to be made before
April. Our first problem arose with the injury of Commander Jane Ziers, on
October 6, 2008. Her injuries have, so far, prevented her return to duty. We
have missed two important meetings this year, the first cancelled because of
severe weather, and the second because all our officers were too ill to attend.
Although we had a quorum at our February meeting, there were not enough
officers present to fill the positions, and I, as Unit Adjutant, gave notice
that, if asked, I would not accept that position for another year.
The members who were present at the February Meeting
discussed the future possibilities for our Unit and decided to pursue steps
toward a merger with another unit. Our DAVA National Bylaws state that, “An
auxiliary, upon approval of its unit membership at a regular business meeting,
may request a merger with another auxiliary.” You are hereby notified that
at the March 17, 2009 meeting, a vote will be taken regarding a possible
merger of our Unit with Jacksonville Unit #1 DAVA. With approval of our
membership to request this merger, the receiving Unit would then vote to
approve the merger, after which the merger would need State approval. National
would then be notified and members would be issued new cards.
It is obvious to those of us who have worked so hard
to keep this Unit functioning that changes need to be made Your presence is
requested at this March meeting to help us decide the future of our Unit.
Nina Beverly, Adjutant
For the Acting Commander, Ilean Dennis
