CENTAURUS

 

(Abbreviation: Cen).

 

A brilliant southern constellation (one of Ptolemy’s originals).  Containing many important objects, including the nearest of all the bright stars (a) and the superb globular cluster w.  There are 18 stars brighter then the fourth magnitude:
