Salisbury cathedral has the tallest spire in the UK.  Additionally, it's one of few cathedrals from the Gothic construction era to stay within one style.  It (the cathedral) was built in 38 years - record time at that point.  Why?  Well, because the bishop and the lord of the city were feuding (the city was moved to build this cathedral).
