One of the things I noticed while rereading "The Becoming" yesterday
was the fact that the dark side was growing stronger and stronger. Could this be
a foreshadowing? We are entering the third round, if you will, and it's time for
absolute war to break out. The individual stories ended with Maggie, after the
tenth book things turned darker, each leading us closer and darker till we reach
what I predict shall be the war between the Atrox and the Daughters. Its also
way past time Vanessa grew as a character, and for all those who cry indignantly
"But she has grown!" she has! But not enough to face her final destiny, and I
see hers as being perhaps more pivotal than the others. Think about it:
Jimena - really Pandia, new mentor
Tianna - becoming/binding the Atrox again
Serena - her destiny as the key
Catty - The Final Daughter, if you will, her destiny is to destroy the
Atrox, we have known this since her first book.
Vanessa - ???? a bit odd that's we don't really have a hint what
her destiny truly is, if you ask me.
Now I ask you to endure my rant on destinies and such worth.
Jimena seems hindered by something, even at the end of "The Becoming" she didn't
have all her memories back. By this book she will, I predict, and her role in
this story still dominant.
Serena - I see her as a weak player in book 13. Her climax, however, will be in
book 14, which I think will be the darkest and most powerful book, as her
obvious bliss in having Stanton and her cello must come to an end. Her choice
between light and dark, NOT the seventeen metamorphosis all the other daughters
go through, as she doesn't that luxury, must be made. I'm actually more excited
for book 14 than 13 at this point.
Catty's got to deal with Kyle. Book 13 will possibly include more on what
exactly happened between Catty and Kyle, but also keep in mind SotD three,
"Outcast," is Kyle's book. This will be the detailed account of their
relationship, so DotM book 13 will only briefly mention it, if it is at all
mentioned. Catty's destiny is still up in the air, I won't even make a guess at
this point as to what exactly book 16/17 *at this point I'm all for it being 17*
is about until we get book 14. Catty's books have been consistently darker than
the other girls books, except perhaps "The Becoming." What I predict now is that
Catty's next book, THE FINAL BOOK IN THE SERIES, will either be the
darkest or the happiest, but either way, it will be the most compelling, the
most powerful, and indeed, the best and only way the series can end. I will
leave you to your own devices as to what the final outcome will be.
As for Vanessa...Lordy Lordy, Nessy Nessy. Her destiny will be revealed and this
will be her darkest hour. It was been foreshadowed in the last two books that
something has been bothering Vanessa, and baby... it'll be all out in book 13.
She must tell Michael the truth, and it must be done in this book. It's high
time for it, but also, if they want to be closer, 'cause the poor children are
obviously head over heels for each other, this is a major factor that needs to
be discussed between them. Either he will die or she will sacrifice herself for
him to some degree are the only possible ways he won't find out...unless he
already does know....
But the one thing that really irks me about book 13 is that not even so much as
a title has been released. That says to me that Lynne hasn't written it or that
she actually read these boards and realized "Hey, they came really close to
guessing the plot of 'The Becoming' just by the title alone." *if some of you
recall the theory one the message boards pre-"Becoming" that Tianna was the
Atrox's bride* That says to me book 13 is a pivotal book, Vanessa's best yet.
I also think that as the Atrox has been getting stronger, so has the girls' dark
sides. Catty's is already strong, and I think that if there is one thing that
will destroy her in the end, it would be that. Serena, as far as we know, has
been said to have become a mysticae, one of Hecate's inner circle. No doubt her
book will tie into the SotD somehow. Hey, maybe even in book 13 the SotD make an
appearance, but as they don't have strong direct ties to Vanessa, I highly doubt
that.
But let us not forget that child Maggie conceived with only that one night with
Hector, and the destiny it has.
All in all it depends on Jimena - if she's gotten all her memories back, LIKE
I THINK SHE HAS NOW THAT "THE BECOMING" IS DONE, then we will at last know
the identity of this child...and its destiny.
Will this child have a strong connection to Vanessa. Possibly, probably if you
ask me. Either way...Vanessa will discover something huge about herself in this
book, her bubble gum days are over.
Its time things go pop.
