1. In the mighty vigorous flow of time, another wave is rising up. The name of this wave is Tarana. A very good name indeed ! What does 'Tarana' mean? One meaning is that it removes fear, i.e. it enables us to solve our problems and to overcome our difficulties. Another aspect is that it guides the seeker to cross the ocean of samsara (the worldly bondage).

2.   In the philosophical perspective, the pains and pleasures of the flow of life are the waves. In the worldly aspect, war and peace, confusion and progress - all these are the waves. They are endless.

3.   Similar is the nature of time. It is also endless. Moreover it has no beginning even. Man has invented some limitations to the time, which has neither a beginning nor an end. Man has such a power. The reckoning of a year resulted, by utilizing this power.

4. The waves of pleasures and pains, happiness and sorrow are perennial in the flow of life. Due to the system of the measurement of time, these successive waves also have limitations. As per the method evolved by man, there is the system of the minute, hour, day, week, month, year, Yuga (age) and Kalpa [Which comprises of the four ages, namely Kruta, Treta, Dwapara and Kali, the present age]. Thus an artificial limitation is seen for the measurement of time. What is the use? The reply is not far to seek. This limitation helps mankind to patiently bear either grief or difficulties in life.

5. The time is a concept. The world is an object. It is material in nature. How does the concept of time help us to transcend the feeling of the pairs of opposites like pleasure and pains, fame or blame etc., arising out of the materialistic worldly life? We need not entertain this doubt.

6. The man-made measurement of time is not the total concept of time. Really speaking, the time is the creation by the mere sankalpa (intention) of the Supreme Soul. A vibration emanated from this divine intention.

7. This vibration only is the fundamental cause of the creation of all species of life. Not only that. All the stars, galaxies, and planets emanated by this vibration, which causes planetary orbits too.

8. It has been the ancient tradition of mankind to consider the planets and the planetary movements to overcome the problems of life. This great science has been gifted by the kind Lord to mankind through the saints, the sages and the seers.

9. Viewed in this aspect, the year Tarana that we are entering, has some beneficial influence of the planets.

10. There is no daytime without night. If the daytime and the nighttime are of approximately equal duration, it will be comfortable for us. Similarly, if the benign influence of the auspicious planets is more, even by a bit, we can consider that we are lucky.

11. Let us consider the year 'Tarana' as a unit of time. This unit also has a horoscope which reveals that the moment of the birth of the year has the gift of the auspicious graceful looks of Guru graha (the planet Jupiter).

12. Guru means the Trinity in one form i.e. Dattatreya, the single form of Brahma, Vishnu and Siva (the Creator the Protector and the Annihilator respectively). His benevolent influence is on the Kumbha lagna [ kumbha - pot, lagna - time of the event. Here the origin of the year Tarana] The horoscope of the year clearly reveals that the planets Guru and Sani (Jupiter and Saturn) influence the human race.

13. Guru graha is the most peaceful of all the planets, whereas the most cruel one is Sani (the Saturn). These two planets affect the mankind powerfully during this year.

14. All the creatures of the world will face tremendous challenges during this year.

15. However, there is no need to worry, no need to get upset, no need to be confused. The subtle, assuring, strong saving feature is that the graceful looks of Guru rescue us. Dattatreya's benevolent vision protects one and all. It is quite possible for us to have an excellent leadership of liberal thinking and dynamic efficiency quite able to face any problems or difficulties, however horrible they may be.

16. In this year high passions sway the human hearts. However people get good rest also at times. We experience the torrential downpour of rain of the diametrically opposite features like deceit and sacrifice, crookedness and kindness. Threats and treaties move around hand in hand this year.

17. Now let us consider the family situation. During this year, the control and discipline the youth will be an uphill task for the elders. It will be so difficult. However one need not lose heart. The elderly people must cultivate self -control and self-discipline in their lives. Thus they must be the role model and ideal for the young ones to follow and seek guidance by their personal example.

18. In spite of the threatening dark clouds of quarrels and hatred in the world at large, in the countries and at homes, one need not sigh in despair. Ministers and secretaries of quarrelsome attitude will come to power. Cunning, crooked minded people will be close to the rulers of the lands and establishments. Hence one must be always cautious "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom".

19. However many threats there may be, Guru's graceful glance guides us. The looks of the planets Sani and Kuja fall on the planet Guru. That is why the real spiritual leaders will be blamed. Moreover, in the name of spiritualism, many frauds will be done. In spite of all this, Guru is at the fundamental pivotal position. He continues to render selfless service non-stop. The people observe the same keenly.

20. Though the problems like draught, water scarcity, price rise etc., persist as usual, there will be slight relief.

21. Wherever there is a problem or confusion, Guru gracefully glances and rescues the victims by his benevolent guidance. This is Sri Ram Raksha, the divine protection for sure.

22. Hence all the spiritual seekers and scholars must make sincere efforts to bring about cohesion, cooperation and coordination for unity and synthesis. As per the Vedas, Upanishads and the ancient sacred texts of philosophy and theology, there are several paths to divinity. We must strive hard to attain unity by the peaceful performance i.e. by following the pious principles of morality. We must develop the attitude of non-differentiation of the worship of Siva and Vishnu.

23. This is the age of modern science. Brahma, the repository of knowledge bestows this aspect to the mankind for the advancement of science and technology. This is sure. In case we worship Siva and Vishnu with an equanimous attitude, we will enjoy the grace of Dattatreya and Guru graha (his aspect). Thereby we will experience the atmosphere of the harmony of hearts at home, in the society, in the country and in the world at large. Peace will reign supreme.

24. Blessing : May you all enjoy peace and serenity by the blessings of the gracious Guru Dattatreya, the Aadiguru (the foremost of the preceptors of philosophy) ! May the human race in particular enjoy the supreme peace and plenty! May Bharat (India) shine with the brilliance and versatile victory. Now let us sing the song of Yugadi praising the Supreme Soul, who is the personification of the principle of infinite Time. May He bless us with world peace! May the lord of time glance on us gracefully!
