Global Warming
Overview of the Greenhouse Effect
The greenhouse effect helps regulate the temperature of the planet.  It is the result of heat absorption by certain gases in the atmosphere.  Without a natural greenhouse effect, the surface temperature of the earth would be about 0 degrees F instead of its current 57 degrees F.
Some causes of global warming:
1. carbon dioxide from cars and power plants
2. nitrous oxide-"laughing gas"
3. deforestation
Pros:
1. Northern U.S. and
Canada would experience
warmer temperatures
for farming.
2. Warmer temperatures
Cons:
1. Sea level has risen
15-20 centimeters.

2. Snow in Northern hemisphere
and Arctic region has decreased.
Effects on Environment
1. rising sea levels
2. increased extreme weather events
3. expansion of the range of tropical diseases
What we can do?
1. recycle to save trees
2. use less sprays that damage the ozone layer
3. carpool
4. walk
5. catch the bus
