This movie has had so much hype, and the movie totally lives up to it. Director Chris Columbus took a beloved book that millions have read, and made it appear exactly as it did in my mind when I read the book. Everything is nearly perfect. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter is like a sock to a foot, as well as the casting of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Hagrid is exactly as I had pictured.
The movie is a little boring in the middle, but is quickly passed when the trio go under the hatch, and Harry meets Professor Quirrel and Lord Voldemort face to face. This scene is really well done, but could have been much darker. Along with that scene, it is truly magical when Harry goes to Diagon Alley. Oh my gosh, when I saw Diagon Alley, my mouth dropped. The street was so amazing with the building leaning in on each other, the owls, and all the other wizarding stores that were in Diagon Alley. The movie was extremely true to the book, and like I said previously, it seemed like Chris Columbus took the thoughts out of my head that I had when reading the book and put them right into the movie.
The casting for Sorcerers Stone was magnificent, with such British legends as Richard Harris and Maggie Smith. Especially Maggie Smiths performance as Professor McGonagall was truly amazing. She was so perfect in the role. Another character who was perfect in the film was Professor Quirrel. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is launching a franchise with a very bright future. |
