| Diction:
In the first stanza the chorus uses words like wonderful, high, and shinning to help support mans supremacy over other inhabitants on the earth. All three of these words have a positive connotation that brings out the best in mans superiority. These words help lead into the creation of the impressed tone that the chorus develops. Imagery: In the first stanza the chorus uses the words, timeless and stallions to help picture the labor that has been done for a long period of time. The word timeless actually means a really long period of time, not really timeless because if it was timeless time would never stop and time has not pass by since the labor started. And the word stallions creates an imgage of mighty horses that are very strong and powerful, so it creates picture of major accomplishment by hard working creatures. With both of these words put together, it creates a powerful picture of hard working men all working for one goal to accomplish a remarkable project. Detail: The chorus provides us with specific detail such as huge crest instead of just a simple crest. The chorus decided to use the word huge to help make the wave seem powerful and tremendous giving it a commanding connotation. In addition he used the word crest which is the top of a wave, and waves usually are very strong violent force of nature that sucks in its victims because its so strong, so by using the detail of huge crest its giving this thing a sense of dominant force, but of course man is on top of this so man might call a monster. Syntax: The first stanza is actually one big sentence, with semicolons and commas that connects the fragments. It has no exclamation points or question marks in the first stanza because this is the introduction of what the chorus will be telling the reader. |
