JANUARY 1, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR GWEN BAY--On the last check up-just after the Feast, the doctor was surprised to see the cancer had not grown since the last visit. My gratitude goes to God and to those who are praying for me. We know he only allows what is for our eternal good and that gives one great confidence. (Sent by Gwen Bay)----Please continue to pray for Gwen's complete healing.----Gwen asked us to make corrections to her last prayer request--Corrections are in red: SEPTEMBER 23, 2001--PRAYER REQUEST FOR GWEN & COLIN BAY--Wayne and Doris Cole request your prayers for long time friends and members of God's church, Gwen and Colin Bay. Gwen is afflicted with aggressive breast cancer. She once worked in the church office in Sydney, Australia (Correction: Gwen was never employed in the church office in Sydney, she only did volunteer work there.) and later transferred to the Auckland, N.Z. office. (Correction: Gwen never worked or lived in Auckland, N.Z.) Gwen and Colin now live at: 34 Wyatt Crescent, South Burnie, Tasmania 7320, Australia--Please pray for Gwen's full recovery.
JANUARY 1, 2002--UPDATE ON WILLIAM T. CLEVENGER--I have intended to e-mail you for the last two weeks. My brother, William T. Clevenger, was released from the VA Medical Center last Friday after having made a "miraculous" recovery. At one point his physician had contacted me and my sister giving us the impression that he could die at any time. I informed him of the prayer request as soon as I originally contacted you. From that point on he seemed to begin to contemplate his relationship with God and his future and his condition continually improved. The prayers of God's people surely pleases Him and He answers according to His mercy and grace. Thank you all for your prayers and cards. Your brother in Christ. (Sent by Jerry Clevenger)----Note: The original prayer request dated October 18, 2001 for William requested prayers because William was critically ill of cirrhosis of the liver.
JANUARY 2, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR REY CRANDALL--Rey is still in intensive care. Rey is still very critical with serious heart and kidney problems. Rey Crandall has many friends in CGI, United, International, and Global. He graduated from AC and spent many years at WWCOG, and had been an assistant to David John Hill at AC. He has been active in all of the churches. His wife is deceased and her family is in Missouri, and Texas. He is very much in need of our prayers. (Sent by Robert McElwee)
JANUARY 6, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR BILLY--I would solicit your prayers on behalf of my step-son, Billy. He is 37 years old and just told us that his one remaining kidney is failing. He was born with only one and all the doctors said he would not live the night, then would not live to start school, then would be like Gary Coleman. None of their dire predictions came true, but he has had trouble all his life.----The prognosis now is that he has a year and one-half to live. Even with a kidney transplant, he will also need a bladder transplant, because both are damaged beyond repair. (Sent by Mary Wendt)
JANUARY 7, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR DICK WEATHERWAX AND UPDATE FOR TOM ELTRICH--First I'd like to thank all of you for your prayers for my husband, Tom. His heart is fine, and he just heard from the endocrinologist that his thyroid is fine, also. I guess that means he'll get an extension on his warranty. Many of you have prayed for my dad, Dick Weatherwax, and his many health problems in the past. I am coming to you again to ask for prayers on his behalf. When a recent angiogram was performed, blockages were found in his carotid artery (leading to the brain), and his left leg. The doctors cleared the blockage in the carotid artery, but wanted to wait to take care of the leg for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the dye used in the angiogram caused his kidneys to fail temporarily, which of course put a strain on his entire system. Now the doctors don't want to operate on the blockage in his left leg at all for fear that his heart and/or kidneys won't be able to recover. This past week, the toes on his left foot began to show the beginning signs of poor circulation, which will lead to gangrene fairly quickly. If he is too weak to have angioplasty, I'm quite sure he won't survive an amputation. Only a miracle from God can save him either way. The doctors have all said they don't believe he can survive surgery, and he certainly won't survive gangrene. Please pray for God to intervene in His mercy, and help us to accept His will, regardless. Thank you. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 7, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR TREASURE SCHNEIDER--I've been dragging my feet about sending an update because I hardly know what to say. Treasure is "better" in one way, worse in others. She has continued to have more waking hours, interested in food and art projects. On the other hand, she seems fairly tormented, (crabby and agitated), not wanting to go to bed at night, sometimes staying up as long as she can, while her little head bobs around trying to find a place to rest. She is quite pale and there is no "meat" left on her bones. YET, she keeps going. Such a puzzle. The family is using low doses of the Noni Juice and Strauss heart drops, as it seems to make her even more agitated when she is on hourly doses. The agitation comes out in profuse weeping and comments like, "You don't love me anymore!" This is all very pathetic to witness, my heart is breaking for the family and I wonder how much longer they will have to suffer like this, (24-7). Treasures mom and dad have been so wonderful and consistent in their care. How blessed the little gal is to have them for parents. The patience and love just keep coming! They often comment that the prayers for them are being heard as they feel so "girded up". Praise be to our Deliverer! (Sent by Vanessa Lorentzen)
JANUARY 7, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR CHESTER HAND--He has a enlarged heart. Pray for him to be healed. (Sent by his brother Donald)
JANUARY 8, 2002--CINDY HOGMAN--I personally spoke directly to Gary Hogman on the phone this evening just before 9:00PM--Gary said he would send us an update. JANUARY 9, 2002--Gary and Cindy do exist and the prayer request was correct, it's just very old. Following is the update that Gary sent us today. After that are the ones we originally sent out in December so that people will know what has transpired here. (by Laura Lee)
JANUARY 9, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR CINDY HOGMAN--Cindy is in a down period in her treatment. She has endured a great deal of chemo and radiation therapy and her most recent Contrast (barium) CT scan in the oncologist's opinion shows no noticeable tumors! He did inform her that she is at extremely high risk for re-occurrence in the same region and a re-development some where else due to the nature and stage of her cancer. I say SHE IS HEALED! I will keep praying for continued health and recovery. Praise Jesus. (Sent by Gary Hogman)----DECEMBER 17, 2001--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR CINDY HOGMAN--My name is Gary "Nick" Hogman. My wife Cindy is 32 years old and has just been diagnosed a few days ago with stage 4 cervical cancer and her chances for survival are very slim. She was pregnant with our second child and had miscarried at 5 months and now we know why. This is a request for you to forward this email to everyone you know asking for prayer. The more people that pray for her to be healed the better. Pray and forward. It only takes a second to hit forward. Please do it and don't delete this, your prayer will save her life. Please pray and ask everyone you know to pray for the HEALING of Cindy, removal of all cancer in her body so she may enjoy all that life has to offer, and to continue to be the wonderful mother to our 5 year old son Michael. The power of Prayer is unsurpassed. Unsurpassed. I want the whole world to have her in their prayers the next few weeks. God will hear our cry. Please do not be offended by my plea. This is only a request for your help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this and helping with our quest for healing, no words can express how much power we have when we do a little extra to come together. Regards, Cindy's in-love husband, Gary (Sent by John Dickerson)----DECEMBER 18, 2001--CINDY HOGMAN--Yesterday we put out a prayer request for Cindy Hogman, which appeared to be written up by her husband Gary. Today, when I pulled my e-mail, at least 3 people had sent me e-mails stating this prayer request is a hoax, although it did seem to be legitimate at one point, and now appears that Cindy is actually in remission. Is there anyone out there who receives our prayer requests and updates, who personally knows Cindy or Gary Hogman? If there is anyone out there who personally knows Cindy or Gary Hogman and can get me a current update directly from them, please e-mail me as soon as possible. It is reported to me that Gary and Cindy Hogman live in Bedford, Texas. With that location in mind, is there someone in the Bedford, Texas area who could either call Gary or Cindy Hogman and get back to me e-mail, or could someone be so kind to see if they are listed in the Bedford, Texas phone directory and if so, e-mail me their phone number and area code so I can phone them for a current update. Thank you.----We are glad when people let us know a prayer request may be a hoax, so that we can check it out. We only had this happen once in the past with a little boy named Michael Novenche, and when we checked that one out, it just turned out to be a very old prayer request, but was not a hoax--Michael Novenche by the way still needs our prayers, he has "Astrocytoma" and his web site is at http://www.geocities.com/michaelnovenche/ So please on the off chance that Cindy Hogman may need our prayers, do not forget to pray for her and just as soon as we can get more information on this, we will pass it on to everyone. In regard to Cindy Hogman's prayer request being a possible hoax we were sent the following web site address http://www.lava.net/~higak/chain/sick/hogman.htm Thank you Laura
JANUARY 9, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR ARDELLE WILTSE--Peggy Wale's mother, Ardelle Wiltse, is in the hospital with what the doctors are calling a "life-threatening" kidney infection. There is apparently some doubt as to whether she will survive the night. Earlier today I was in touch with Peggy, and at that time she thought her mother had the flu. Needless to say, Peggy is very concerned, and has asked to have everyone pray for her mother's survival and speedy and complete recovery. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 10, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR JIM TURNBLAD--This is a difficult post for me to write. : Jim Turnblad's condition is worsening. The past few days he has been disoriented. He is having liver problems and they suspect cancer in the liver. His ammonia levels are high. The doctors believe that if there is not a turn around in Jim's condition soon, he will die within a few weeks. The brethren in our area are going to be fasting on Thursday Jan 10th (today), seeking God's will, hoping for a miracle. I never expected things would go this way. Please increase your prayers on Jim's behalf. I know there are many brethren needing prayers and healing. I feel bad asking to burden you all further. But we are to carry one another's burdens. Jim & Connie need us to help carry this one for them right now. Of course we are all praying for Jim's complete healing but there is one other thing we can pray for. If God decides to take Jim from us, Please pray that Jim will be awake enough for Connie to have some time with him. She hasn't really been able to do that due to the disorientation. I spoke with Kathe Myers this morning and she was there last night. Jim did have a time around 10 PM where he recognized people and was talking some. If Jim's ammonia levels rise he may slip into a comma. Please pray for God's will to be done and for Connie to have the time she needs with Jim if the worst comes. I hate saying that, but it is important for Connie even though we all want Jim completely healed. With grief beyond words, Linda Schrieber (Sent by Dona Fehr)
JANUARY 11, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR PAT & RUBY PATTERSON--Please ask for prayers for Pat to continue as he is experiencing worsening nausea and lack of appetite and energy due to his liver cancer. Please pray for God's intervention for his comfort and peace of mind as well as for my mother Ruby Patterson who is caring for him during this difficult time. Thanks to all who have prayed for him and who will continue praying... (Sent by Linda Moers)
JANUARY 12, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR DELANEY--Please pray for this poor little baby. Thursday night an 8 month old little girl named Delaney pulled a hot Fry Daddy on her body. Her Mom, Deena, pulled her out of her walker and also burned herself. They lifeflighted the little girl to Scott and White and then to Parkland Burn Center in Dallas. She has 40% burns on the trunk of her body. They are going to amputate at least 3 fingers on one hand and will have to skin graft from her Mom and Dad to help repair her. She is in very critical condition and her lungs have filled with water. They don't know if she will live or not. They say the next two or three days will decide. They need as many prayers as they can get. (Sent by Maureen Moulden)
JANUARY 13, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST & UPDATE FOR ALEX KISSER--Please thank our pray-ers for their prayers regarding Alex Kisser who was run over by a water tank several months ago. He is finally out of the hospital and can now walk two blocks behind his wheelchair. Please continue praying for his full recovery. (Sent by Lister Chen)
JANUARY 13, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST & UPDATE FOR REY CRANDALL--I saw Mr. Crandall in the hospital, and he is recovering slowly. He is stronger, and more alert, and speaking better. He is expected to remain in the hospital 3 or 4 weeks. Thanks to everyone for their prayers. (Sent by Bob McElwee)
JANUARY 14, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR DAVID NICOLAY--Greetings everyone! I know everyone has been waiting for this news of us. David had his MRI today and we had the results at the oncologist's office this afternoon. The tumors in his head showed signficant decrease in size and there were no new ones. The oncologist was very happy with this news and is referring us to the gamma knife specialist who we will meet with on Friday the 25th. He still has the same number of tumors but since it has only been 3 weeks since radiation, they will probably continue to shrink and hopefully the small ones will completely go away. We were very happy to have this news and are looking forward to our next step with gamma knife. According to the oncologist, they normally like to only do three tumors so we have to continue to pray that the really small ones go away and he is only left with two. this in my mind, would be optimal. We will definitely know better though once we talk with the neurosurgeon. this is a big relief but we know it is not over yet in this area. Your continued support and prayers are much appreciated.----David also will have a ct scan at the end of this week and will visit with the surgeon on Jan 22. We are also hoping to have great results with NO new disease in this area. The oncologist said that it is not unusual that David is having problems eating since part of his esophagus is gone. She wants him to drink high calorie drinks to help with weight gain. He had his last procrit shot (all of us should have stock in the manufacturer of this drug trust me) until he has chemo again. His blood counts are up to 36 which the doc considered good. I was encouraged when she said that it is not surprising that he has some difficulty with eating- his appetite is good it is just difficult once it hits the stomach. Medication is helping somewhat and remember they did take a part of his stomach out. not a lot but some so it makes a little difference there. I am praying for good ct results so that we can peacefully move on to gamma knife, chemo and generally our lives once again.----And to all of you , we thank you for your continued support prayers and concern. I will continue to update you all as fast as I can with the latest news. I am hoping that this e-mail finds all of you happy and well. Please take care of yourselves- and please do whatever you need to do to stay healthy. Much love, Anne (Sent by Anne Nicolay)
JANUARY 15, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR MICHAEL NOVENCHE--Please, please stop and say a prayer for little Michael Novenche. He will be going for a emergency MRI. He is having excruciating headaches. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. (Sent by John Novenche)
JANUARY 16, 2002--Hi! The following prayer request for Delaney, may or may not be current. We do not know at this point and are unable to find anyone who knows this family personally. We have received a report that this prayer request was sent a year ago--we don't know. If anyone can give us an update on this, that would be great, if not consider it canceled. Many prayer requests and prayer chains circulate on the internet via email everyday and some float out there for years. If you do not personally know the person you are requesting prayers for, the best rule to follow before fowarding a prayer request that will be sent to many is: check it out yourself to be sure it is current and correct before sending it out to be sent to many people. JANUARY 17, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR JIM TURNBLAD--(1) Forwarded message from Linda Schrieber: Received this this morning. Hi, Jim was in surgery for 2 hours this afternoon. The doctors found Jim's bowel had been perforated. They removed a section of bowel and repaired it and then found another area on the bowel that needed to be repaired. Because his blood pressure was so very low they were not able to examine other areas as they had hoped. Jim remains in intensive care where he will stay for at least 3 days. He continues to battle very low blood pressure, poisons that leaked from the bowel, possible infection from the surgery, a very low immune system and the lymphoma. The next 72 hours are very critical. Since Jim will remain in intensive care, they moved out of the room on the 4th floor. Connie is "camping out" in the critical care waiting area. The phone there is 651-220-5202 Thank you for your continued prayers-Steve Myers----(2) Forwarded from Linda Schrieber: Here are the last two updates I received on Jim Turnblad from Steve Myers: 1-12-02 Update on JimTurnblad of the Mankato, MN congregation: Jim remains hospitalized with aggressive B Cell lymphoma. He has not responded to the initial Rituximab chemotherapy. A "traditional" chemotherapy was started this week. He continues to have daily dialysis to help remove high toxin levels and help his transplanted kidney. The doctors also found that Jim has a bacterial infection that he most likely contracted at the hospital. Jim and his wife Connie trust in God and look to Him and His will. If you would like to help financially, a fund has been established to help with the monumental hospital bills. Make check to: Family Friendship Fund / Turnblad (it is tax deductible)----Mail to: Family Umbrella Network, P.O. Box 9236, North St. Paul MN 55109----1-15-02--Jim's white blood count has gone down and is low enough to concern the doctors about possible infections. Because of this He has been moved to another room where he is in isolation. This means he may only have 3 visitors at a time who must wash their hands and wear face masks before entering his room. His new room number is 4530 and the new phone number is 651-220-7625 Continue to remember Jim and Connie and the family in your prayers. This trial seems to be one thing after another! How they are enduring this, I do not know! Jim Turnblad is going in for emergency surgery at any moment now (3:00pm Wednesday). Doctors feel that the pain Jim has experience is a result of air in his periteneal cavity (abdomen). They say it may be from a tear in his bowels. Through the surgery they will try to find what is causing the problem and repair it. Thanks for your heartfelt prayers. Steve Myers (All of these updates were Sent by Dona Fehr)
JANUARY 17, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR TREASURE SCHNEIDER--In an email I received from Vanessa Lorentzen today, Treasure is not doing well. Her lungs are filling with water and she is unable to take any kind of medication. (Written by Laura Lee)
JANUARY 17, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST UPDATE FOR PAT PATTERSON--Hello everyone... My stepfather, Pat Patterson began experiencing excrutiating pain last night because of his terminal liver cancer. My mother has blood pressure problems and due to the stress of this situation cannot get her pressure under control and has a terrible headache this morning. Strokes run in her family and she is the only one of her sibblings that has not experienced a stroke. I am very concerned and would appreciate all of your prayers on their behalf. (Sent by Linda Moers)
JANUARY 20, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR TEV LIGHTHILL-RIDLEY--I'm asking all of you to pray for a young man I don't know. His name is Tev Lighthill-Ridley. He is currently at bootcamp, following in the steps of his two older brothers. He was set to graduate in February, when it was discovered that he not only has pneumonia, but also a case of scoliosis (curvature of the spine) so severe that it looks as though he will be discharged from the Corps. He doesn't want to be discharged, and has petitioned not to leave. He has been told that there is less than a one percent chance that his petition will be granted. None of us knows God's will for this young man, but whether he is able to remain in the Corps or not, please pray for his healing (his temperature was 103 when they discovered the pneumonia), and his spirits. He has wanted to be in the Marines for a long time, and if he has to leave it will require a complete reassessment of his future. As I said, I don't know this young man, I just received an e-mail which was sent out to a group of Marine moms. His mother is concerned for him physically as well as emotionally. Please include Tev and his family in your prayers. If I hear any more information about his condition, I'll pass it along. Thank you. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 21, 2002--DR. ERNEST MARTIN DIED--PRAYER REQUEST FOR RAMONA MARTIN--Just received word that Dr. Ernest Martin died in Portland, Oregon from a second heart Attack. (Sent by Bob McElwee) Ernest died January 16th of a heart attack. I ask prayers for his wife Ramona. (Sent by Ken Westby)
JANUARY 22, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR DAVID AND ANNE NICOLAY--Anne has asked that I send this message to all of you (and some more that I've added to the list). As Anne had emailed early last week, David was scheduled to have a Cat Scan this past Friday. In the interim, David's status took a downturn as his eating became more limited due to nausea and he was extremely tired, Anne thought initially from the lack of eating. The results of the Cat Scan were received on yesterday, and the the news is not very good at all.----The cancer has spread to his liver and to his rib bones. The diagnosis is terminal, i.e., inoperable. David has been admitted back to Touro for them to hydrate him and get some food in him via IV. They are also going to do five days of intensive chemotherapy to try to arrest the cancer for a little while (i.e., stop the progression so we can get David home to have a little time of quality of life- there is a slight chance they will be successful with this step). David has one of the worst cases of cancer that many of his MD's have ever seen, by the speed that it is spreading through his poor body.----As you may imagine, they are both totally overwhelmed by this news and have asked for NO calls or visits to the hospital or home FROM ANYONE except immediate family (mother/brothers/sisters) for a day or two until they can absorb the news and spend sometime together. I CAN NOT EMPHASIZE THIS REQUEST ENOUGH. Anne has informed me she will let me know when they are "together" as best as they can be and are ready to talk to all of you, but right now, they are just not there - and I will send you an update email at such time.----As I was able to reach some of you by phone yesterday, a common question is 'tell me how long David has?'. I can not answer this question - Anne said the MD's will not make a prediction on this. What I can tell you is through my research yesterday with the clinicians I have access to, cancer in the liver is a rapid type of cancer - it would be as little as a few weeks or as much as 2-3 months, but no expectation beyond that - to give you a "reality" fell.----I apologize that I am the bearer of such unwanted news. I can only ask that you pray that David be given some immediate relief from the situation so that he and Anne can take a dream vacation somehere in the immediate future to spend some quality time together, and that we pray for a blanket of warmth, love and support around both of them during the forthcoming weeks.----I pray that it gets to everyone as I had to handtype her email distribution list from scratch. (Sent by Suzanne Haggard)
JANUARY 24, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR TREASURE SCHNEIDER--Today Treasure Ann got ALL your beautiful cards that were sent to her from your E-mail "prayer support group". You can't believe the joy that they brought into the house. Each one was special! The grandparents were on hand and we stood passing them around and exclaiming on the beauty and thoughtfulness of each one. Treasures 8 year old brother "Colt", was the most moved! He read them each out loud and hung on to the encouragement with real excitement. Treasure herself smiled at the pictures. Smiles are rare these days but not non-existent. Although we have much prayer and are feeling it's strength it is apparent that our Lord Yahshua has something else in mind. Treasure is losing ground on this earth very quickly now. Her kidneys have stopped functioning. Her breathing is very labored and the heart has become erratic. Her blood pressure is so low they can't measure it. In spite of this, she listens to everything that is said and makes comments on occasion. She is in slow-motion, but still struggling to survive. I have never seen anything like her will to live. Yet, our Father in Heaven has another plan, May He have His way entirely! My dear friends often quote this, as they try to keep the "big picture" in mind; Job 13:15 15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. NKJV Please pass this on to all the dear people who have been involved in prayer, sending drops, juice and cards. Praise be to Yahweh that this is the miracle...we are people with hearts of compassion, not stone! Thank you all so much, the burden has been divided! (Sent by Vanessa Lorentzen)
JANUARY 25, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR DAVID NICOLAY--I apologize that I have not sent you and update before now - I feel like I have left you all hanging, but unfortunately its a "day by day" thing right now.----I stayed with David this am so that Anne could take care of an emergent client need. His spirits are good, but his appetite is still waning - I'm sure its the impact of the chemo on his body. We do not know exactly when he will be discharged from the hospital - it could be tommorrow (I hope so as he's totally sick of the hospital as any of us would) but most likely will be Sunday.----Per my "check in" with Anne, they still are not ready to let the phone lines and visits loose - David sleeps alot these days and its "day by day" as to his strength - Anne doesn't want to overtax him. I promise to email you as soon as they feel he's up to hearing from everyone.----I know everyone feels helpless and wants to do something for them, but at this point, all we can do is continue to pray, as they gain their mental strength with the situation and David gets his physical strength up. (Sent by Suzanne Haggard)
JANUARY 27, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST FOR ANTHONY OWEN'S AND HIS FAMILY--I have just received an e-mail requesting prayers for LCpl Anthony Owen. He is in isolation at Camp Pendleton with a very low red and white blood cell count, and a temp. of 105. So far, they don't know what's wrong. Also, today, Sunday, his father, Ray, is having major back surgery. Needless to say, the mom could probably use some prayers, too. Thank you. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 28, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR DAVID NICOLAY--Just an update from Anne via Suzanne for all of you----David's discharge from the Hospital will be Monday vs. Sat or Sun as I originally thought. I had the no. of days of chemo treatment somewhat mixed up - David's chemo did not end till Sat 10:00 pm, so obviously the discharge would not have been as I originally thought.----David's spirits waiver as he's tired of being in the hospital as any of us would. The chemo has been so strong this time around that he is extremely nauseous and I'm glad that we are at the hospital to keep food/vitamins going into him via the IV line. He is down to one IV line at this time, compared to the three all week, so he's happy about that.----We continue to take this one day at a time. I'm asking that you hold the phonecalls and visits still till his energey level recouperates from this week of extreme chemo. (I actually am keeping the phone off in the room alot to let him sleep/rest, as the week hasn't been very restful with the "around the clock" nurses checks on his IV's etc.) As soon as I think its ok, I'll have Suzanne send you an update to such effect.----Thank you for your continued prayers and support during this time. At this time, your prayers are the thing you can do MOST for both of us. (Sent by Suzanne Haggard)
JANUARY 28, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR ANTHONY OWEN--I just got an update on LCpl Anthony Owen. He has been given at least two pints of whole blood, and is being transferred to Balboa Hospital in San Diego. His mother said he sounded a little better, but is still waiting on a diagnosis. Please continue to pray for the whole family. She didn't mention how her husband, Ray's, back surgery went. I'll let you know when I hear more. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 28, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR TEV LIGHTHILL-RIDLEY--Recently I asked you to include Marine Recruit Tev Lighthill-Ridley in your prayers. He has pneumonia, and when his lungs were x-rayed, it was learned that he also has severe scoliosis. His mother just e-mailed and said that his pneumonia is improving, and that the Corps is working to get him back into basic training. I guess they figure that if he could make it through over two thirds of boot camp without having any problems from the scoliosis, that he'll probably be a great Marine. Please keep up the prayers. His family is giving full credit to God for His blessings, and are relying on Him for direction, strength, and healing. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 29, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR ANTHONY OWEN--I just wanted to let you know that I just received an e-mail from the mother of that Marine whose red and white blood count is so low. He was transported by ambulance to Balboa Hospital in San Diego, and although his red blood cells and platlets are up, they are still dangerously low. Additionally, his white blood count has not improved, and they have discovered that his white blood cells are deformed. I wish I had more specific information, but we all know that God doesn't need it for our prayers to be answered. I'll let you know as I get additional information. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
JANUARY 29, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR DAVID NICOLAY--A quick update for everyone - good news - David is being discharged today - he's VERY ready to get home. He will go home with an IV of vitamins/nutrients, similar to his chemo bag before (i.e., this isn't an IV pole he has to drag around the house with him). A home health nurse will visit and take care of the IV needs. He could have this for up to a month - the intent is to get his nutrients up, so one month is on the upward max end - not something the MD can exactly predict an exact timeframe as of today.----His liver is functioning very well, which is good news, so the MD will be able to continue to give him TPN (ok, this is beyond the accountant's clinical knowledge - I've heard of this drug many times but am drawing a blank on what its for - its very expensive I know and seem to remember its something very high powered for cancer). What I got out of the conversation was they can continue giving this to fight/arrest the cancer as long as his liver is functioning normally, so this is good news.----Both of their spirits are up today since getting ready to go home. David is still quite nauseous (another reason for the IV bag) and the medicine for the nausea keeps him drowzy/sleepy, so Anne is unplugging the phone when he sleeps.----For a few more days, she's requesting to hold calls/visits so she can get him settled and rested (sleeping in the hospital isn't that restful - even from working in a hospital, I don't think I had an appreciation for how loud the nursing units are when you are trying to sleep - part of his tiredness is lack of sleep from all the noise on the unit).----I'll send you an update in a few days - Anne is going to try and get on line tonight to send all of you an update but I have a feeling she'll sack out tonight.----Have a nice day everyone - thanks for your prayer support - David is being discharged today! There is no emotion that can out do
the pain of grief,
There is no dealing with this pain,
There is no understanding it,
There is no reasoning with it,
It is a pain unto it's self,
It is a pain of which only
Time can heal,
No amount of words said
No amount of physical suffering
No amount of words real or imagined can
stop the pain or the anguish, or can even
begin to heal, the deep sadness
mental distress caused by such a loss,
the physical suffering is so deep that only
Time can be a friend to such pain
and I am one of whom has lived this
pain, and Time is the only Blessing
for such a deep felt sadness,
God gave us emotions and without
them we could not even begin to
deal with such pain.
I am truly sorry for your loss to come and I pray your pain is lessened by time. {Enjoy your time with him now} (Sent by Donna Jean {Ellis} Tillotson).
JANUARY 30, 2002--PRAYER REQUEST AND UPDATE FOR ANTHONY VAUGHN (OWEN)--I just got an e-mail from Anthony Owen's mom - he's the Marine with the blood irregularities. Her husband's back surgery only took 3 hours instead of the expected 4, and he is doing very well. Anthony's condition still has not been diagnosed, but they have ruled out leukemia or other cancer. Please continue to keep this family in your prayers. I know Anthony's mother is probably suffering more than her son or husband. It's always so hard to watch the ones you love when they are hurt or ill, and not be able to help. We all know the incredible power of God and our prayers to him. Please keep sending them up to Him. Thank you. (Sent by Nancy Eltrich)
