| Played November 11-November 12, 2004 It was about time for me to play another platform game (haven't played one since Super Mario Sunshine for the Gamecube)! I thought this game was going to be dull and silly, and I was only half-wrong! Here's the review: Average Game Time to beat= about 10 hours Gameplay-8: Regular platform game, but with its unique style. Most of the game is just collecting power cells (about 100 in the game) and receiving the rewards so you could move on in the story. This game is very similar to Crash Bandicoot, but in a free world. In the game, you plainly get across the map and fight some enemies along the way, with an occasional boss thrown in from time to time. The game is simple, yet can be frustrating when you can't perform the task properly after awhile (just like a Mario game)! Graphics-7: Nothing too special. It's not at all horrible to look at, but there aren't any special CGI scenes, so everything looks the same all of the time. Most of the areas are either factory-looking or green grasslands. I had no problem with the graphics, but don't compare to today's standards with the CGI scenes. Audio-7: Like the graphics, nothing horrible, but nothing amazing. There's not much to comment in this field, although Daxter's voice and outbursts are comical at times...too bad Jak doesn't talk in this.... Storyline-7: The plot of this game was good enough for the audience this game is expecting (children, teens). It's an okay storyline, but blown out of the competition compared to games like...oh, say FINAL FANTASY! Fighting-8: Fighting is almost 1/2 of the game, since enemies are always in hostile areas. I enjoyed the uniqueness in the style of fighting improvement. Let me explain; You have your regular moves that look like Crash Bandicoot moves (like spinning in the air, whacking enemies), and then you have the fighting techniques you gain temporarily after finding a colored gas, electrical substance (called "eco"). Green eco is your life, so that heals you. Blue eco makes you faster and able to use some electrical appliances or open electrical doors in certain places. Red eco makes you twice as much stronger, so that comes in handy once in awhile. Yellow eco is probably my favorite, since it lets you shoot out fireballs until you run out of time for holding the eco. The flaw in the fighting process is that you don't get much life, and the maximum amount of life never increases throughout the game, so it's very easy to die if you don't know what to do in a hostile area. Score: 8/10 This game is pretty cool, and I can't wait to play and review the next two that have come out already...until the next review....so long! |
