Inspirations:
Titan was my attempt at a very "Silver Age" hero. Obviously, he's inspired by Captain Marvel, better incorrectly known as Shazam. Titan was also inspired by another "youth to adult" type hero called Prime. There are references to Captain Marvel in Titan's story. Grandpa Beck is named for CC Beck who created Captain Marvel & Ted Adams is a not too hard to figure out reference to Black Adam. Wolfie is the fake name used for John Connor's dog in Terminator 2. Willow is actually NOT the name of Titan's red headed female best friend. She was based on Allison Hannigan's character in the television show Buffy, but it was the name we kept using until we came up with another one. I have no record of what it was. I'll suggest "Amy" if that makes you feel better. :)
I had a hard time coming up with this character. I had thought about doing a Green Lantern type character, which exists in the M&M Universe. I believe it was the GM Fred Dailey who suggested a Captain Marvel type and who drew the picture you see here. I even went so far as to purchase the "Kingdom Come" Captain Marvel figure for the game. Titan's "real" name is for the Great long time center for the Oakland Raiders, Jim Otto. The last person to wear the number 00 (the NFL now prohibits it's usage). Mr Otto played center for the Raiders for 15 years, never missing a game due to injury. He played in 308 consecutive games according to Wikipedia. He has, however, paid for it with almost 40 surgeries and is disabled. He claims to not regret it and would do it all over again if given the chance. If that's not tough, I don't know what is.
Memory/High Point:
My favorite memory of Titan was against a villain named Orion the Hunter. This guy was hired by someone to put the team through it's paces and gage them. He then attacked the team and Freedom City, culminating in using a "baby nuke". The quick and near complete defeat of his team hit Titan hard. And in a moment that was suppose to be a foreshadowing of his future, Titan decides if Orion wants to play rough, he'll oblige Orion. Using every bit of speed in his powers, Titan performs a flying tackle into Orion and carries him to the edge of the atmosphere. Needless to say Orion was knocked out and we returned to Earth. However, Orion was somehow able to regain conciousness and escaped. To be honest, I didn't think the guy would be able to breath easily, let alone escape but it is a very comic book thing to happen...
Future:
Alluded to in the High Point section, there was suppose to be some foreshadowing of Titan. I had the idea to copy some of Malibu Comics Hero Prime's storylines. Prime was also around 16, like Titan. Think about it. You're 16 and suddenly you have the powers of a god. You're going to be tempted to do somethings that probably aren't exactly high on the hero meter. It might or might not have culminated in "Rogue Titan", but definately would have included some very "teenager" moments where Titan would show up at the HQ listening to heavy metal and wearing black clothes. Since the group didn't know who Jim was, he would only show up in his Titan identity.
