The Everyday King: Epilogue

There are many times he'd ask himself "what if?" or "why?" but no questions were left answered. This is a tale of a young man who lived a life of lies....and died a death of truths.

It was a cold winter day like none he had ever witnessed. King left for work in the fields where a new day would begin. He hoped the crops would survive like they did last winter, but hope was never his best ally.

King was a farmer, a very good one at that. It wasn't his favorite past time but it was his way of surviving. Abandoned as a child, King lived alone all his life. Living alone he didn't need much food so he didn't use much of his land on crops. The little land he did had soil enriched with vitamins and minerals. Soil he had lived on all his life...land he had on all his life...crops he had survived on all his life.

As King entered onto his crop land he noticed a flickering light off to the far east. "Strange", he had thought, "what in Jahn's name could that be?" Distracted from his daily duties he went toward the shiny object. As King came above the object he knelt down to get a closer look. It was a jewel of sorts. A silver oval with two pearls on opposite ends. Upon closer examination it showed a small crease in the middle...dividing the jewel in half, between the two pearls. It was quite beautiful for a small piece of jewelry. King didn't believe much in materialism, but decided to keep such a fine jewel.

The Sun was going down that afternoon. Done with his daily work, King decided to have an early rest. He sat on his bed and took the jewel out of his shirt pocket. He laid down and stared at the jewel...realizing for the first time how priceless it looked. The more he stared the more intoxicating the jewel was. It had a radiance of a queen and the sterness of a knight. It was right there and then that the jewel would change his life forever.

Images soaked his brain as he laid eyes on the jewel. Horrible images. Images of people dying...of unholy wars...brothers killing brothers...families torn apart...a love that will never be. All the images were tainted with the smell of death. Though the images were revealing and wicked, none were as abhorring as the final. An image of a man standing over mounds of dead bodies and lost souls...an old man with hatred and bitterness in his eyes...a man with hands stained with the blood of innocence...and that man was him.

Almost instinctively King through the jewel onto the floor. Shaking his head of images that should have never been realized. He crawled away from the jewel, with his back against the wall. "What devil has sent this evil onto my land?!", King cried out not knowing his answer would soon be answered.

A crash came outside his home. The night sky was covered with a blanket of fire. Alarmed by the unusual night sky, King rushed outside. There he saw his life die before his eyes. His crops were ablaze with mystical flames. Flames cast from the deep pits of Hades. He didn't know what was more fascinating...how much the sky can be lit by fire on the coldest of winters...or how quickly a life can wither away and perish before your very eyes. Going towards the flames he never realized how close the flames had already ran towards his house. "Blessed mother Jahn, please have mercy on me...I am only a weak farmer!"

At that very moment...before his body would've been engulfed by flames...a loud thud came from within his house. "An Angel...", he thought, as a bright winged creature flew out of his house and lifted him into the open sky, "An Angel has come to take me into the great land where Blessed Jahn resides..." The winged creature hovered in the air above the devastation, holding onto King, "An Angel? Sorry...I'm far from it." King looked up at the face of the Angel...a beautiful face it was...a face seen only in Fairy Tales and myths. He wondered how such a beautiful face could be at such close distance from the devastation down below. That would be King's final thought for the night as he passed out.
