Mission
Santa Clara

Built by: Darrell and Kari
This was a school assignment, No kit, built from scraps, and modeled after the actual mission.

Mission right
Made many years ago, and now the left statue is missing. vandals? We took pics of the real statues and shrunk and printed them. The mission made entirely of styrofoam, cardboard, and paper.
Here is our shortened back. The assignment had size limitations. The palm tree is lost though there WAS one.
Right side view. All of the doors are scanned and scaled dollhouse floor to door plank size. We made the window panes the shape and color of the real mission too on the computer.

More roof tiles
The roof was made from strips of cardboard and painted terra cotta color. Like the spanish tiles on the mission.
To duplicate the real thing, we mixed a few other colors, for some individual tiles. Several different shades of nail polish got the colors used.
We slopped this on quickly, because the assignment was due. We were out of time. Odd color tiles could be a little neater. The "deep set" of the windows also matches the orginal which has thick adobe walls.
Mission roof

We used a jewelry finding, and toothpicks to make the now missing crosses, at the front roof peak and on the tower.
This entire project only took one evening. You know how kids are at letting you know when an assingment is due. LOL! First we had to visit the mission, take pics, and get them developed then build our own. But it was fun.
