WAR OVER SLAVERY MYTH
"No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State"
The U.S. Congress approved this amendment to the constitution on 2 Mar 1861, which can be verified at the U. S. House of Representatives web site .
The north was willing to amend the constitution to protect slavery to coax the seceding states back into the union. The war to prevent southern independence did not happen because the north wanted to free the slaves.
Four Minute History Lesson

"Because you're here."
--Confederate soldier's answer to Yankee'ss question: "What are you fighting for?"

On Feb. 23, 1861 Texans voted 46,153 to 14,747 for secession. Which is the right way to reverse an election: persuasion or war?

Nobody pauses and reflects on July 21 - the day of the Unions stunning defeat at Bull Run in 1861. If the White North had routed the White South and marched on to Richmond on Sunday, July 21, 1861, there would have been no emancipation in 1865 or probably in the nineteenth century.
