" The North East of England's rich canine heritage is reflected in Darlington Championship Dog Show, a show which caters for all people interested in the world of pedigree dogs but is also committed to supporting dog exhibitors.
There have been dog shows in Darlington since 1860 and the South Park, was used for the first time in 1891. In the 1900's the show received Kennel Club Championship Show status, but shows were halted during the turbulent years of war and restarted in 1955. In 1969 Darlington Show Society was again granted Championship Show status. In 1986 The Championship Show became a separate society and the present name of Darlington Dog Show Society was adopted.
Due to refurbishment of the South Park, Darlington we had to relocate the Show in 2005 to Newby Hall at Ripon. This beautiful venue proved to be a very popular choice with exhibitors and visitors alike and we look forward to seeing you there this year.
Known as a very friendly but efficient show, the Committee resplendent in green jackets, sporting the Society's logo, greet everyone with a smile.
Each year a team of approximately 150 world renowned judges have the mammoth task of examining up to 9,000 dogs in 2057 classes. A feature of every show is the special 'Stakes' classes where exhibitors can win their way to many glittering finals as well as winning special prize money.
For the general public the show is a great day out with an opportunity to shop at the huge number of trade stands which sell everything with a canine theme.
Why not pay a visit to this year's Darlington Championship Dog Show either as an exhibitor - or just to see the wonderful dogs on display?
Our Show in 2009 will be the 41st Championship Show in its present form with 2258 classes.
The Officers and Committee will welcome you."
