Charity's Story April 28, 2001
My dear friends and family, As you all know on Jan. 18th my dear Charity
foundered on me, but what you don't know is, 7 years ago she had a laminitis
problem on the same foot. I have a story to tell you.
Seven years ago I was using a different Vet, and Farrier. Charity developed a
dished hoof on the right fore, which is a slight club foot anyway. I had her
shoes pulled, and she was dead lame. I had my vet out, he x-rayed her and
told me she had about a 1-2% rotation on the right foot. I never saw the
x-rays. I was told to take weight off of her, have my farrier cut back her
toes, and put pads on her. I did. By the grace of God, she went sound till
The past January. I have had a different Vet for some time now, and a
different farrier. Dr. Hylton x-rayed her, found a 12% rotation on the right
fore, and about a 1-2% on the left. I was told to take weight off of her, put
her on a special diet, have my farrier cut her toes WAY back, and put the
special heart bar shoes on her. I was also told to start giving her the
LaminaSaver supplement, and to go right by the directions on the label. That
was doubling up for the first 12 weeks. I also, as you all know, asked for
everyone to pray for her. After not quite 2 weeks, we re x-rayed her. She was
now down to about 7-8%. I had my farrier, to my Vets instructions, reset
the heart bars every 4 weeks. Next month we re x-rayed her, she was down to
2% on the right fore, the left was normal. Now, here is where the old x-rays
come in. We started thinking, what did the x-rays look like from 7 years ago?
So, Janice, who is Richard's office manager called my old Vets office. The
old x-rays were found and I went and picked them up. What do you think we
saw? The right fore foot wasn't 1-2%, it was more like 10%!!!! By the grace
of God, that mare went sound. My poor girl was going around like this for 7
years! Now, our special news. I just had her re x-rayed on Monday. She is
back to 1% on the right fore, which would be normal for a slight club foot. I
have been able to ride her for the past 2 weeks now. I had Richard sound
check her 2 weeks ago, and he proudly told me I could start riding again. I
have been on her 3 times now, and today I decided to hop on her bare back.
Everyone was out taking a lesson from Janice this morning, and I wanted to
see what Janice thought. She said that Charity is moving more free than she
has ever seen her, as long as she has known me. She feels better to me than
she has in years. She has to feel better than she has in years! I can't wait
to start loping her. I have to work up to it. Janice also told me that
Richard never tells any of his clients to use any one product, but he is
SOLD, on the LaminaSaver. He is using Charity as his example. WE turned that
mare around in 3 1/2 months, where I was told 6 months to a year. All the
good care and guidance I have been given by Dr. Richard Hylton, and my
farrier, Jason Jacobs. I have been out there everyday walking that mare,
rubbing her legs down, making sure she was fed the right things, by the way,
I am moving her over to a friends house tomorrow so I can have control of
exactly what she does eat, and make sure she's getting it.
Everyone involved in helping make my beautiful Charity well, I thank from the
bottom of my heart, but the most of all, I THANK GOD, because by the Grace of
God, and HIS loving hands he has healed her, he had worked thru every one of
us taking care of that mare. We not only brought her back to where she was,
before this happened in January, but before what happened 7 years ago!
I just wanted to share this with all of you. I feel truly blessed and touched
by the hands of God.
Thank-you.
Darla~
**February, 12, 2002 Charity's update.
For a few months now she has been out of the heart bar shoes, and into filled,
Natural Balance shoes. Between Jason's wonderful work, and Richard's knowledge
and guidance, she is sound! She is now back to a 2% rotation on the right fore
foot. The Good Lord has truly had a hand in her wonderful recovery. I have been
riding her since last summer, and more less, just play around. Really, it's
what I want to do. I just put the bareback pad on her, and take her out to the
arena, and we just spend time together. She has been my friend now for almost 15
years, and a part of me no one will really ever know. She has got me thru some
good, and bad times in my life, and has been a silent friend, I have needed. There
is nothing like looking into those beautiful big brown eyes, and seeing the love.
If you are a horse lover like myself, you will understand. Non horse people do not.
She is now almost 18, still spunky and full of life. She may have some gray hairs
mixed in with the black she didn't use to, but then, so do I!
Thank-you for reading about my beloved mare, who's name means Love.
