Lost Child
18 years old and already jaded
What remains of her childhood has already faded
Forced to grow up way too fast
She tries to move on and forget her past

But those painful thoughts won't leave her now
She tries to run, but doesn't know how
They start to flood back through her brain
She tries not to give into the pain

Her mind returns to an earlier time
of recess, picture books, and nursery rhymes
hair cut short, kids tease and laugh
plant roots of depression that will lead to a crash

11 years old, growing up fast
her remaining happiness would not last
Mom and Dad split, world torn apart
They said it would be a brand new start

Dad remarried, Mom out of state
She tries to remember, but it's already too late
Dad's wife is a cruel and controlling bitch
He stays with her though, because she is rich

They made her life a living hell
All alone in the world, no one to tell
She finally decides she can't take anymore
She moves to her Mom's, to even the score

17 years old, Dad moved away
Life gets harder every day
Senior year, on the brink of her life
and so many causes for all of her strife

She works at a local fast food chain
Her back is bad, gives her lots of pain
Few people stick around to be her friend
looking at the sky, she wishes for an end

18 years old, college girl now
She's made it this far, but she doesn't know how
Most of her friends have left her behind
She thought things would change, but no one is kind

People say she is desperate, weak for affection
But she has never had that kind of attention
So she lives her life, a loner forever
Hoping that things, someday, will get better
