| As I mentioned in my earlier post, we had three Steel Battalion setups in my apartment. I think of it as training for our battles online. Here are a couple of photos from the event. | |||||||||||

| That's right - 3 SB setups linked. A little slice of heaven. | |||||||||||
| Well, there it is. Lovely isn't it? Hopefully we'll find a way to link up 4 of them and we can do some Conquest matches and have things be more even for Battle Royal. Now I just want to take a moment and comment on Steel Battlion: Line of Contact. First off, as many reviewers put it, this "game" is really just the content that should've been included in the first game. I think if the two had been combined you would have had an awsmome well-rounded game. Not to say SB isn't awesome. It truly is my favorite game to date (until someone makes a better mech game). Until someone builds a fully functioning simulator, this is the closest you'll ever get to piloting a mech. With LOC I have been able to lay the smack down online and unfortunately have had the smackdown layed on me. Right now I haven't had a good experience with the campaign mode of this game. I think alot of other players out there feel the same. Capcom both here and in Japan need to get their act together and fix these servers. I'm not saying my connection is T1 fast, but I do have cable internet and lag should not be this bad. Also related to lag is the "eating" of VTs and supply points if you're dropped. I get nervous about entering a match now because if I'm dropped I will likely lose at leat 1 VT in addition to any losses I incurred while playing. I imagine it might have to do with players who would shut off their Xbox before they took a serious loss, but shutting off and getting dropped are two different things. Also there are times when I don't understand the scoring system. There are standard points for taking a base and killing VTs but last night I played two different matches. The first one was with Kricket and some other guy on my team. We lost because I guarded the wrong base but I did get a kill and took no losses. I got over 6000 supply points for my troubles which is ok. The next mission it was a 2 on 3 (because one of our teammates got dropped - shock!) This mission I did even better with the disadvantage. I got 3 kills, took 8 bases, lasted over 30 minutes, and took 2 losses. My score - 4500 points! I managed to only recoup one of my lost Scare Faces after all that. I think it stems from some "participation bonus" you get sometimes. Hell, it makes little sense to me. I just know I want to get out there and win some of these matches without having to pick up the slack of dropped players and messed up communications. I imagine it will take some time before these problems are fixd, so in the meantime I'll play a match or two and do the best I can with what I have to work with. See you on the battlefield. |
