| Well it's the Tuesday after the camping trip and all is now back to normal. Ryan, Shao, Erka, Gabby (Ryan and Shao's friend), Elise, and myself went to the Low Water Bridge campsite near Front Royal this weekend and relaxed on the banks of the Shenandoah River. Overall the trip was uneventful as we spent most of our time just relaxing, playing with the campfire, and cooking. We pretty much had the run of the place because the rains caused by Hurricane Jeanne flooded the campsite out a couple of days before our arrival. This caused most of the people planning to come to cancel their reservations. But because several of the sites on higher ground had a chance to dry out some, Ryan and I said let's just go for it and off we went. And we were not disappointed. Despite the fact we were camping and getting all back to nature, we were definitely NOT roughing it. The campground had hot showers and bathrooms and wood could be purchased for building fires. This type of experience is what I would call relaxing camping. Probably sometime in the future we will attempt to actually rough it by hiking in to a remote location carrying only what is essential and just spend a night or two actually on our own. However, unlike Elise, I'm a not ready for a day long hike. I'm old, fat, and lazy. A couple of miles or so is more than enough for me. All I need now is to secure a decent backpack, a smaller, easier to set up tent and some hiking shoes, and I'll be all set. Well enough about the great outdoors. What else is going on? My friend and former co-worker, Dawn has moved to the area. That's two of my former co-workers from my old Oklahoma City lab job that are in this area. I mean it would be one thing if say some of you old coworkers from the Metro area happened to move to the same small area where you live, but all the way from Oklahoma...just plain freaky. To top it off I recently learned one of my best friends from college is relocating to this area in the spring of next year. He's going into the lucrative consulting biz and should be raking in some serious cash. Can you say mooch? This next year should be interesting. As for me, I'm just working on a new and improved 2-year plan. Right now I plan to tough out my current job situation until I have adequate training and experience (@ 2 years) and then try to either hook up with the EPA in some capacity or to try and become an EHS manager/engineer for one of the many tech or biomedical groups in the area. Of course, I'm still open to relocating if the job and money are right. Also by that time, my car will be paid off and I'll have more disposable income to use for traveling. However this time around I intend to hold on to my current car for as long as it will run or until I'm making plenty of money to get a decent replacement. As for gaming, the only big purchases I see myself making in the next 2 years will be for a PSP. As for the Next-Gen systems (Xbox 2, PS3, Nintendo Revelution), it's still comes down to only one thing in terms of purchasing...the games. I definitely won't be jumping onto these systems on their launch dates unless there are some really impressive titles accompanying them. There's also going to be a big issue when it comes to the format these systems will use (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD or none of the above). But we can talk about that more when the time comes. Also. I plan to start updating my games section again, so if you have an article or even a game rant, just send it to [email protected] or post it on the games section of my message board. Later. |
