Hi Everybody.  Sorry I haven't posted here in a while.  I've been a bit preoccupied of late.  Before I talk about the serious stuff going on, let me just recap the weekend for you.

Friday night we saw American Wedding.  Probably the funniest movie in that "trilogy".  Stifler is officially the man and stole the whole show.  You definitely need to see this one.  After the movie we hit the Bee's and Aaron demostrated his love of nature by humping a tree branch...as someone drove by him in the parking lot.  Then he accidentally announced to Evelyn, our waitress, "My hand is strong!"  I think Aaron topped the movie in terms of entertainment for the evening.

Saturday night I just relaxed at home and Kricket stopped by for a little bit.  I showed him some stuff in KOTOR then played some Dynasty Warriors 4.

Sunday I stopped by Subway to drop off Silent Line for Aaron to burn and kicked back as Erka entertained himself by throwing firecrackers at his cousin.  Good stuff.

Then Sunday night, things took a turn for the worse.  Most of you that know me well know about my dad.  He's got quite a few problems.  His body has been jacked up from his time in the military and working for the railroad.  He has adult diabetes and depression.  And he has been fighting a losing battle to drug addiction (prescription pain killers) for more than 20 years.  Despite all these problems he has done the best he can for a man in his condition.  I have a general philosophy about people with addicitions or serious emotinal problems:  "People don't stop running with their demons until they hit a brick wall."  In layman's terms, people don't tend to change until something truly terrible happens to them or someone close to them.  But even the death of his father and mother couldn't change my dad.  Well Sunday night, my dad hit his brick wall.  Unfortunately it wasn't a brick wall...it was my mom.  For the first, an most likely last, time in 30 years of marriage, my dad hit my mom.  Not just a slap either.  He punched her twice.

The eyewitness to all this?  My 13 year-old niece.  Fortunately my brother-in-law and his friend arrived a minute or so after it started and got my niece and my mom out of there.  Once they got to his house, my sister called the police.  They took statements and pics of my mom's face.  About an hor and a half after it happened, the police went and picked up my dad.  He was calmy waiting for them and said, "I was expecting you."  Right now my dad is still residing in the LeFlore County Courthouse Jail.  My mom is not pressing charges, but in these cases the DA can decide to prosecute regardless of my mom's wishes.  I think that on the request of my mom, they are going to try and get my dad into some sort of rehab program, which is what he truly needs.  They're working on the details now.

Despite what's happened, my mom, sisters, and I are not mad at him.  We just want him to get the help he truly needs and get his life back in order.  But I guess the sad truth is that even if he recovers, our family will most likely never be complete again.

Later.
