| There's been alot going on in my personal life as of late. I won't go into details because this is not the right forum for it. I will say that of late I have realized that I have grown up alot in the past year or so. And today, one of my best friends made me realize how strong I really am on the inside. Most of you that know me know I'm a good listener. Often people will tell me things they wouldn't tell their own mother. People lean on me and look to me for support and I always do the best I can to provide it. Whenever someone needs me I am most often always there. I'm like a big rock people lean on. As for me, I really want to thank my parents and some of my friends here in DC. They are truly great and even now at the age of 30, they still look out for me and lend me a hand when I need it. No matter what I do I don't think I'll ever be able to repay them. But despite their support, there's alot of things in my life I keep to myself and deal with alone. In fact it feels like more and more there's heavier burdens to bear and bigger battles to fight. | ||||||||||
| Now you may be asking, What does this have to do with Ben Grimm aka The Thing? Simple, out of the hundreds of super hero alter-egos that exist and that people associte with, this one is mine. Most people these days would pefer to say the Hulk or Spider-Man or even Superman. But I'm talking about a fcitional character that has the most in common with me. Sure, in some ways people can associate with any superhero, but I'm talking about some uncanny similarities. In terms of appearence we have little bit in common, we're both big, bald, and not that attractive. This in of itself has created alot of issues over the years for both of us. But it's not just the appearnce. Those of you that know about the Thing know what a big teddy bear he is on the inside. I can relate to his relationships (his girlfrend Alicia). Also despite the fact he can't have a normal life he just keeps going. He's sensitive, loving, warm, funny, tough...just a genuinely good guy with his own character flaws and issues. But through it all he is that big guy that his friends can go to when they need him. He's just as strong inside as he is big and rough on the outside. Just like me. I will always be here for my friends and family. No matter what happens to me. I am that strong inside. Gotta go...It's Clobberin' Time! | ||||||||||

| Hello all. We'll let's see, I guess I should start with the weekend. Friday we went to see LXG (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). The movie was pretty decent. Of course I can't give you a final say on that because about 20-30 minutes before the end of the movie, the fire alarm went off and we had to leave the building. I'm pretty sure I know whay the alarm went off. Before Kricket and I even got our seats I noted to him how smoky the place was from the concession stand cooking popcorn. I imagine what happened is some teenage kid working the stand let some popcorn burn and the excess smoke tripped the alarm. That place was already pretty saturated with smoke as it was. Note to Hoffman: invest in some vents for your concession stand. Unfortunately whenever an alarm is tripped in a place like that, the fire department has to come and check it out and clear the building for re-entry. Of course this takes time and you have a few hundred people that just got displaced so that makes odds of enjoying the end of the movie even worse. The AMC people did say we could come back another time and bring our stubs and we could see a free movie. I hope that means any movie we want because I would like to see Pirates for free. After a couple of minutes outside we decided to bail with Kricket and Aaron screaming and headed to good 'ol Applebee's. That's when things got weird. I'm afraid for the sake of privacy I can't exactly tell you what happened at dinner. You should just ask Kricket and Aaron. Suffice it to say I sometimes feel sorry for women when those two are out together. Typically when we go out Kricket and Aaron seem to have a habit of examining pretty much every female within a given area (@ 1 mile radius is about right) and then we have the commentary. Since this is a PG-13 web site I can't give you any samples. I'll just let your imagination run wild. There is of course nothing wrong with this. On one hand you have a guy who's married so he doesn't care what other women think and then you have a young single guy who just has an extremely healthy interest in women. As for me, I'm somewhere in between and I try to abide by the first principle of the Tao of Steve (it's a good movie...go rent it) : Be desireless. This means even if I have a passing interest in someone, I make sure they never know it. It's about being cool even if your testosterone levels are peaking. It's self-control. It's admirable to be able to do and say what you want regardless of the setting (within reason), but it's not always cool. The trick is to know when you're being cool/funny or just playing yourself or emabrassing yourself. Of course I'm not always successful, but I think I'm batting over 500 in that area. I'm definitely not judging my friends, but your friends are typically a standard by which one judges themselves. They are a point of comparison. The moral is: Aaron and Kricket are cool guys just having fun, but if you're going to hang with them, be prepared to duck your head occasionally. It could get messy. Staurday we had a little breaking-in to do. Sung just purchased an Xbox and Mechassault, so we decided to get together that evening to fire it up a bit. Sung arrived a bit early and I showed him the basics of Mech fighting and we did coop-play until Kricket arrived and we linked up. Of course I kicked much ass (as always), but my training did help as Sung started to kick some ass of his own. Next time we play, I'm definitely gonna be watching out for him. Then Aaron showed up and the big shocker of the night...Ryan showed!!! I was suprised when I got the call. Apparently Shao was busy that night so he had some time to come hang. Cool to see him again. I showed him Initial D and he he tore it up abit. Then came Halo...good 'ol Halo. We need to start playing that again. Now that Sung has a machine we have more reason to. We played a quick game of Jug and Roc before everyone had to go home. I lost by a lousy 9 seconds!!! But I did have the most kills and least deaths so I was somewhat comforted. It's good to know my skills with the rockets are as sharp as ever. Gotta keep frosty for Halo 2. Sunday: sleep, laundry, TV Monday: work. ewwwwwwwww Later. |
