Well, I'm about a week into my Steel Battalion: Line of Contact experience and I have to say that all is going about the way I thought it would.  After overcoming the initial learning curve of setting up the VTs, going into missions and fighting with people online, I've started building a good record and had Kricket on my team for a few fights now.  I still have to continue building my piloting skills and beome more proficient with weapons like the sniper rifle and grenades.  Right now I have a pretty simplistic fighting style.  I use my main big gun (like the 315 Smooth Bore) and combine it with chain gun.  Since I'm Hai Shi Dao I typically have to fight Deciders who have plasma torches which can knock me over.  Once you're on your back in a fight, there's a good chance you're going down.  So I just sidestep and turn as fast as I can to get behind them.  Right now my matches have been fairly mixed bags.  I've had missions where I've fought against guys with higher rank and smoked them, but I've also had missions where I've worked with guys with higher ranks that just sucked.  But in all fairness, that's the way it typically is with just about any online game.  With this turn we also have the new faction, the Right Brothers, and their two inital VT's, the Colt and Colt Executive.  Hopefully by the next turn (Wed. night) we'll start to see 2nd Generation VTs and (crossing my fingers) the Jaralaccs Mercenary Group.

Right now, I have only three complaints with the gane.  The first is as always, the servers.  Why are the servers all in Japan.  They need to bring some of those over here.  I've been making a list of players who host games that typically fail to launch.  This is the most annoying aspect of the servers.  If you enter a match and it manages to launch to the prep room where you load your VTs for the battle,  it then becomes a crap shoot as to whether you'll successfully start that battle.  Usually if one or two people drop out from the time when they are transitioning from the lobby to the prep room, the match won't load and you WILL lose at least one of the VTs you loaded to fight with.  This of course, truly blows if you are losing rare VTs or VTs from the opposing side you have managed to capture or trade for.

This leads to complaint #2: Rare VTs.  For all factions during a turn, Capcom decides to relaese the better or more specialized VTs in limited supply.  This in of itself isn't so bad.  In war supplies of good equipment are often limited.  However, the way they're realesed is really screwed up.  For the Hai Shi Dao, the rare VT for this tuen is the Scare Face A1.  A lighter, faster version of the Scare Face that also carries the marker gun (makes enemies visible on your team's radar).  How do they release these?  8 an hour every hour.  WTF?! Most people that play on LOC now are around my rank.  This means that most of us have enough supply points to buy all 8 of these in one shot if we wanted to.  But it's also first come, first serve.  So if your timing is a second or two off, good luck getting one.  Kricket and I both have one, but only one of these.  And there's no way we're going to risk losing them to server drop.  So until we find a way to get more, there's nothing we can do.

Complaint #3: Clip Dumpers.  Clip dumping is essentially a glitch in the game that allows you to do a rapid fire burst of your main gun.  Here's how it works.  All you do is taget an enemy and fire your main weapon and continue to hold down the main weapon button.  As soon as the shot(s) start to go, hit the magazine change button while still holding the fire button down and poof...it will shoot off again immediately.  You will lose whatever rounds you had left in the initial clip, but you do have 3 clips (this means you could dump twice) to start with usually.  Most of the offenders are with the PRF beacuse the Deciders carry the 315mm Twin Rifle that shhots off 2 rounds in one shot.  So with a clip dump, they can pour four rounds or up to SIX into you almost instantly.  Total cheese.  I myself do not clip dump unless someone in a match does it to me.  I got my hand on some Deciders so that if I play with a known CD, I'll be ready for him.  Unfortunately, this a glitch in the game code itself and I don't think a patch could fix it, but I hope I'm wrong.  I hate CDs.

Well, that's really all the news from the front right now.  I imagine later I'll report back with more game details and info on what Kricket and I are up to in the game.  In the meantime, here's a photo of the VT I want the most right now.  The Jaralaccs Macabre.  It has a cool sheild ram and can carry a rail gun and/or a cutter boom in addition to the usuall array of weapons.  Plus it just looks plain evil.  Enjoy!
*Sniff*  *Sniff*  It's so beautiful.
