Sure, it's been five days, but I'm back with some more level up goodness. This is basically where I spout off about gaming news and such that is of interest to me. My top bit o' news is the upcoming merger between Sega and Sammy. For those that don't know, Sammy not only made the Guilty Gear games, but is also Japan's leading maker of pachinko machines. So now you have probably the world's biggest arcade game maker (Sega) merging with the biggest pachinko maker. Sounds like an arcade domination scheme. Also, sega knd of needed this. They lost alot of money the past 2 years and Sammy's been making it. So now the two should balance each other out to some extent. You can read more about it here.
Next up is Venus & Braves. It's an RPG from Namco that is in some ways similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. You basically have a party of 7 characters on a strategic grid and fight monsters. Along the way, you level up and get your group up. An intersting twist to the game is that it spans hundreds of years. Your main character is immortal and along the way you will watch party members grow old and die. That's one way you will recharge your group. Sounds like a cool concept and will be a game to look for. It's out for PS2 import now. Here's a screengrab. |

The last game to mention is Chaos Legion from Capcom. Basically this game seems to me like an apology for Devil May Cry 2. It has alot in common with Devil May Cry with the whole gothic horror feel but with an interesting twist...Legion Summons. Basically you can summon a small crew of helper bot types to aid in various battles. They ramge from sword to bomb types. Hopefully this will turn out be better than DMC2. I showed Kricket the trailer and I think he messed up his drawers. It will be out next month for the import PS2. Here's a screengrab. |

As for what I'm playing now? Suikoden 3 and lots of it. I'm trying to finish it before Xenosaga and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter come out. Aaron got .hack and will send me his impressions soon. Kricket will be picking up Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO for Xbox today. Quite possibly I will be doing the same, but I will pick up the older PS2 version. Honestly the only difference between the two is the Xbox Live thing and let's face it - the Xbox controller (even the S) SUCKS for fighting games. The PS2 controller is about the only one that's decent. I also don't like arcade sticks. I plan to petition for a six-button ACSII pad like they have in Japan. They have one there for the PS2 similar to the one I got for my Dreamcast. They're sweet. Anyway, time for me to bail. Look for the next Level Up early next week. Happy gaming. |
