A butterfly flits past your screen all is calm in the land of Eden but as you reach for your drink averting your eyes from the screen for a few seconds Boris your 30ft monkey has eaten all the sheep he can possibly find. Black and white has gone past the benchmark of artificial intelligence into the realm of something that is so advanced it is almost scary. Anyway onto the game it is all about gods n creatures not really a very original idea I hear you scream but that is not why this game is so great. As the intro gently winds its way down a narrow avenue of trees you really do see you have brought one of the greatest games of all time, As you reach the end of the road you see three of the little people know to you as villagers in a great panic. You quickly establish that the two villagers are the parents of the boy in the water and are shouting at him to get out.
Then a large shark swims into your view and you know why they are shouting, the little people drop to their knees and pray and as they do theyre prayer is answered, a god (created whenever a prayer is answered) is sent down to save their child. He swiftly plucks their son out of the water and off to safety. This is where you come in, you are the god who will try to rule these villagers with the help of a colossal creature. The game is set in a wonderfully rendered 3d world called Eden a land of great happiness then you arrive, this world is yours to shape in whatever way you like either good or evil, black or white. The landscape is lush trees and green grass. You are based in a castle or citadel and have to complete some menial tasks before you get you creature either a ape, cow or tiger (more become available) you pick which creature you want and let it loose on the land of Eden. At first you must teach the creature all you know. You teach it how to interact with the villagers and how to take trees to the sawmill to be cut. That takes me on to the resources there are only two wood and food, wood from trees and food from wild animals these are all collected by the villagers but you can help in these processes by uprooting and moving trees and herding wild animals.
Always never forgetting that you have a creature to look after as well, But the name of the game is to make your creature good or evil, which all depends on the way you treat the villager
If you for instance help you villagers with the wood cutting you will be thought of as good, however if you pick up a tree and begin to play golf using the villagers as golf balls it goes the other way. Also as you are doing this your young creature is watching and learning, he does what you do and if that were bad he will be worse. When your creature is bad you can discipline him with either a clip round the ear or a full blown left hook to the head. On the flipside you can scratch and pet him like a domestic pet as a reward for help in the community. As you creature travels along the road to either good or evil changes are made to him it may be an evil hunch or a halo and your castle changes as well if you are evil it grows spikes and is surrounded by scorched grass. If you are good doves fly around your castle and an awe-inspiring glow is emitted.
To cast spells you move your mouse in set patterns this is called gesture recognition and is so good youll wee your pants. The game is a stonker and is almost perfect if not for the slight weird movement and some other very minor faults.
