Bio.

I am a teacher of photography, as well as a photographer in my own right. Here you see a small selection of my personal work, as well as commercial work for companies such as Halfords, Hammerite and Homebase.

I have been taking photographs since the early 1980’s, working on 35mm SLR cameras. I quickly realised that simply taking pictures was not enough. Although I was constantly improving my camera skills, I wanted to see the process through. This led to a desire and a need to master the darkroom. Over many years, I have acquired the skills necessary to process and print black & white, colour negative and transparency film.

Along with increased knowledge, comes the realisation of the camera format’s limitations. I rarely work with the 35mm format now. Most of my images are originated using medium (6 X 7), or large (5” X 4”) camera formats.

Even through the advent of digital photography, I have not abandoned the traditional camera or darkroom skills. Nor do I intend to.  Any photograph needing to be supplied in a digital format, or requiring digital manipulation, is still originated on film. The image is then scanned into the computer, where any alterations can take place. In my opinion, digital procedures should be used to augment photography, not to replace existing skills.

The photographs on this site are available as framed prints in a size and frame style of your choice. Contact me for more information.
