What age and gender group has the most self injurers in it?
All About Self Injury
What is Self Injury?
I would have to say..
age group:
teenagers. Just like the suicide rate is huge in that cato...

Gender:
would probally be female. I guess their a little more sensitive guys :)
If you do any of these to yourself. My suggjestion is to tell someone, or find out online about this. See a theripist, and always remember to keep your "booboo" clean.

Carving
Burning/Abrasions
Cutting
Branding
Marking
Picking and pulling skin or hair
Biting
Scratching
Head banging
Brusing
Hitting
Excessive body piercing or/and Tattooing
Self induced vomiting
Breaking of bones

All of the above ARE self injury...
Is their a label that does self injury more?
In my eyes, no. I dont beleive in labels. Goth, punk, whatever. If you met me, and labeled me. I'd be goth. Thats beside the point though. Self injury isnt a label. its an escape.
Why do most people HATE Self injury?
In my opinion because they are rude. And scared. Scared that one day someone close to them will reveal they do it. Or that one day they themselves will do it. I would call it denial, for people who have tried it. Being a self injurer is not always wonderful. And those people dont understand that. They think this "sickness" is like the flu. We cut, it goes away. Like you take medicine for the flu. This is again not true. Life isnt fair, we just have another way to show we have problems. Our problems are often much more serious.
Can I DIE from self injury?
Is taking a saftey pin and scratching Self injury?
Well, yes and no. I mean, you could hurt yourself in the wrong spot, and leave it uncared for. Dying because of your carelessness. Or some, turn from self injury to suicide. Personally, thats the road I took. And it did string from self injury to suicide. Considering how easy it is to kill yourself these days. I would say further down the line. Without some kind of attention about your problem. Medical or other wise. Youre most likely to die, from or stemming from self injury.
YES! My family use to always say no. But yes it is.As seen above scratching IS self injury.
Do you have to tell someone to do it?
Telling someone is the right thing to do. But no you do not have to do it. Take a look at "hidden scars" on the links page for more information on what happens when you hide self injury.
Why do some or most people self injure?
Are people usally willing to help you stop?
Often a Self Injurer has been or is being abused. Sexually, emotionally, physically or all of the above. Often this stems from things such as, Anorexia, and bulimia. Some are taught to do it. Some friends tell them it helps, and then it does help. So they continue. Some get told they have disease that cant be cured, or get put in a hospital. Some just like the pain, and/or blood. Thats only a few, but you get the big picture.
From a non self in injurer who has a best friend who self injures.
"Why is it so hard to stop once you start?"
It usally depends on who you ask. but if you want to stop.Usally they are more than willing to help out. especially if your close to them. :)
Because its very addiciting. Its like drugs, or smoking. The pain, you fall in love with it. You become so happy to have it you dont let it go. You just cant. And their are no nictine patchs or whatever the hell called. Besides, you cant stop intill you want to...
Is life harder to deal with when you self <<<< injure?
Yes. Considering your mostly hiding your cuts, you have to keep them clean. Come up with excuses, fight the urge, have emotional break downs ext. i would say Yes it is much worse with self injury.
(below) Shatter Of Innocents (below)
Have ever felt like you dont exist in the world, but the blood tickling down your arm seems to prove you almost completely wrong. And then the pain that seems to wait a second comes crashing down, ruining the few seconds of peace and freedom you thought you had? Well self harmers live for the seconds of pain that ruins, because instead of ruining it, it concludes there session. Like the end of a phone call.
When you hurt yourself, youre waiting for one thing. It varies on what that is, some wait for the pain, some for the blood, and some for the type of control. Sometimes, we wait for it all. The control of sliding it and deciding your fate, the blood that seeps out of the cut you made; quicker than you could make the cut, and the pain that seems to be an after shock. The adrenaline, the piercing feelings that nothing will be okay until you cover the cut up, and feel the pain thats inside. Shatter of the innocents, is what I call it when I cut myself. I'm shattering the innocents inside my body, and letting it rush through me, and seep out.
No one ever seems to understand, shatter of the innocents accept my friends who hurt themselves also. Sometimes, they dont get it right away. Sometimes I find it hard to make friends outside of self harmers, (AKA self injurers) because they barley ever understand, and usually beg you to stop. It hurts to hear someone plead to you on there life, to stop doing something you love, that makes all your pain rush away.
Most self harmers know why they hurt themselves, but a very few have no idea. Most psychiatrists find this interesting, that they dont remember why they started hurting themselves. But then again, does anyone remember why they started drugs, or why theyre smoking? How about why they had sex that ONE time, yet continued to come back for it?
Medication doesn't help us much either, considering its not depression making us cut, why would it? The medication will help with our mental disorders, and diseases, and our depressions and sometimes it may help make the cutting thoughts of sensation come less often. But we dont just take the medication, and stop cutting miraculously.
I'm not a doctor or a counselor, but I would like to be someday. In my personal opinion someone who has gone through the pain and suffering knows whats wrong, and can help much more than anyone who hasnt. But there are some, who understand and are great people who just want to help, but no one will ever encourage someone to hurt themselves, and if they do they are clearly wrong.
Self injury is more than pain releasing and carelessly helping people all over the world, it is addicting over 100 people a week. Many people are taking medication and seeing professional because of depression, suicide thoughts and self injury. But many are overlooked and dont care to tell anyone, and soon enough die. Self harm is very often hidden, but shattering of the innocents inside you, releases the pain that always prevails
I hope this helps you understand a little more about self injury and self harm, because your friends, family, and you deserve to know about Shatter of the
