| Velma Kelly murders her husband, Charlie, and her sister, Veronica, one night before she and Veronica were supposed to perform because she found them sleeping together. Then she rushes off the the Onyx Club and performs "All that Jazz," meanwhile the cops are on her tail and arrest her when she finished the number. A month later, Roxie gets arrested and the two murderesses meet at the Cook County Jail. Once Roxie starts to steal all of her publicity, Velma tries sucking up to her but it doesn't really work; Velma is left alone and depressed when her trial gets canceled. Then Mama Morton finds Roxie Hart's diary in her mailbox (Billy Flynn sent it to her after he added a few "erroneous phrases" in it) Velma makes a deal with Assistant DA, Martin Harrison that if she testifies in court against Roxie (with the diary) then she will be dropped of all charges and set free. After winning her freedom, she meets with an agent and her agent informs her that a double act (especially a double act with he and Roxie) could be a big hit. So, she finds Roxie at an audition and they get together in an act and are a hit. "Don't sweat it. I can do it alone..." |
