Arrival by Beotonje
The park was quiet.  More so than usual.  A light wind stirred the treetops, and rustled the undergrowth.  The swings on the playground swayed as if ghostly figures were merrily playing.  Two old scraggly dogs were scrounging around the dumpsters by the picnic tables.  Stopping abruptly, they sniffed the air nervously.  The dogs were the only ones who noticed the fog.
It rolled in slowly from the East, thick with an odd green glow.  Instinctively, the mutts backed away, whimpering like pitiful pups.  Backing into the dumpsters, they realized they had no where to go.  As they cowered and shivered, the fog enclosed, and then covered them.  The horrible growling and yelping could be heard for blocks, shaking the air.  And, then silence...terrible, piercing silence...
Two haggard forms leapt from the fog, letting loose low, gutteral growls.  They were horribly transformed, deranged, almost insane looking.  Taking respectful positions on either side of the pulsating haze, the hellhounds sat at attention.  Slowly the cloud began to dissipate, retreating back into the East, but as the fog disappeared, a different figure materialized from its depths.  The tall, human-like form seemed to walk out of the air itself.  As it passed the deformed dogs it ran it's fingers gently up their necks, and scratched behind their ears.
"Such good boys."  it whispered to itself.  "such fine, fine animals...go search for me...find what I look for."  With that command, they bounded away to the city, melting into the shadows.  "Now that I have taken care of that, I suppose it would be a rather good idea to secure a place to stay for now..."
Sniffing the air, he turned North, and as the dogs, (only a little more graceful) he, too, melted into the shadows, leaving behind an empty park, and the beginning of a chain of events that would change the city in ways it could never dream...........
