Sarah Harmer and the Cowboy Junkies!!! (in Bar Harbor, Maine

Hi everyone! This is a review I posted at the Cowboy Junkies message board and I thought you guys might like to read it too. I'm sorry there's more info about the Junkies set than Sarah's. Maybe I can fill in a few blanks though if you have any questions. Oh, when we
first got to the theatre, Kevin Fox was in the parking lot unloading some equipment. I did not want to bother him though so I didn't say hello. I kinda regret it now! Never got to talk to Sarah either. I don't know where she disappeared to after the show. Anyway, here it is:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I went to Bar Harbor, Maine last night (and by the way, Bar Harbor is heaven on earth) to see Sarah Harmer and the Cowboy Junkies. This was by far one of the best concerts I've EVER been to in my entire life. I was in tears several times. I am a pretty sensitive person but for music to bring me to tears... well, you get
the idea! The show was in this very old restaured theatre in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor... What a quaint little town it is. I hadn't been there in years. We used to go alot when the exchange rate wasn't so horrible.
Anyway, the sound in that theatre was amazing. Sarah's acoustic guitar sounded so great. Her vocals blew me away again (this was the second time I see her). Dale and I commented that she definitely has one of the best voices going. Her songs are amazing too... her lyrics
are out of this world. She played for about 45 minutes and did most of the songs from "You were here". The crowd loved her. You could tell that most folks there weren't familiar with her but I think she most certainly won over some new fans last night.
We had pretty good seats too... 7th row on the left. Unfortunately, I could not see Michael very well and this was a real shame because to me, he is the talent behind the Cowboy Junkies. He writes all the songs and well, his guitar playing is phenomenal. Margo really has a great backup band with her. The keyboard player got rousing cheers on several occasions. I was really struck by the drummer too. He reminded me a little of Glenn, the way he had his mouth open alot and was totally zoned in his playing.
And Margo... ahhhhh.. beautiful Margo. Her voice brings me to tears. I listen to her almost every night when I go to sleep. What a voice!! I was really impressed with how personable she was... interacted with the crowd alot with storytelling between songs. Everyone who took
that stage had stories to tell of how they had spent the day in Bar Harbor. You could tell they were really struck by this port town.
The Junkies played 3 of their new songs from "Open" back to back and I really enjoyed them. Once I get some money, I will definitely buy this cd. I think it's great that they have their own record label and do alot of stuff through their website. They sure know what they're
doing. They also played a few classics but I must say, alot of obscure songs. At one point, there were some hooligans screaming from the balcony and someone was shussing them. Margo pleaded for them to be quiet for 3 more minutes because she wanted to do one more slow
song and that they could talk as much as they wanted after that. Classy lady she is. Those jerks had no respect.
After the 1st song of the Encore, I decided to yell out a request "A horse in the country". To my delight and extreme surprise, they played it! I was really shocked because all night, people had been yelling out for songs, especially for "Sweet Jane" and she obviously did not want to play that one but she played my request. I was so excited... I can't explain it. The tears just started filling my eyes. I've been listening to that song over and over again for the past month. It just does something to me. I was so grateful.
After that song, Margo said she would be out in the lobby after she changed and said she'd be more than happy to sign autographs and chat with people. I thought that was the most incredibly nice, selfless
gesture she could have done. And to my surprise, only a handful of people stayed after the show. I got to meet her and thank her for playing my song. She was incredibly nice and down to earth. A very pleasant encounter. She told me that the cd I had ("Studio") is out of print and to hang on to it!! hehe! I thought that was pretty neat. My only regret was not getting to hear "Cause cheap is how I feel". Well anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. I hope you enjoyed
reading. Good night!
Allison
