Nafuloth sighed to herself as she glanced at her bond. What are you doing now, Ankou?
Ankou blinked as she looked up from the book she was flipping through. "Looking for a spell." She answered.
Nafuloth stretched her black-purple wings before turning back to her bond.
Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, the last time you tried to do a spell from that book...
Ankou scowled, still flipping through the pages of the spellbook. "Nonsense, that was just a little mistake. Nothing like that will happen this time."
The Night Purple dragoness rolled her eyes. That 'little mistake' had caused a large explosion that had almost caused the Weyrwoman to throw them out if it ever happened again.
"Okay." Ankou began. Her feline paws rested on a page near the end of the book as her lionlike tail lashed back and forth behind her. Her gold-tinted eyes lit up in her human face as she read through the spell. Nafuloth was busy spitting out large, white feathers, stirred up from her bond's anxious flapping of wings. "I found a spell that looks like fun!"
Ankou, an Egyptian sphinx, sat back on her haunches, holding the spell book in her front paws. Nafuloth had never figured out how Ankou managed to hold books with no hands. Eventually, she decided to just not dwell on it. She just rolled her eyes, sitting a long distance away from her human/feline bond and watched as the sphinx began to chant a spell.
A burst of light erupted at once, followed by a deafening blast. Nafuloth covered her eyes with her wings.
Not again...She thought to herself. Cautiously, she looked at her bond, hoping Ankou was alright.
Ankou was sitting on the ground, clenching and unclenching one of her hands with interest. Nafuloth looked over the rest of their weyr, a bit messy, but no permanent harm done. Then she blinked, and her head snapped back to Ankou so fast there was an audible crack.
Ankou? You're...human...
Ankou looked down at herself in surprise. "Aw, shards." She muttered.

A sevenday later...

Curiously, Ankou had not yet been able to counter the effects of the spell, and was therefore still human. Not that Nafuloth seemed to mind, or indeed, care. She was too busy preening for the rapidly growing number of eager males that constantly surrounded her.
Ankou scowled. "Nafuloth, why did you have to choose
now to rise. When I'm...like this!?"
Nafuloth seemed to smile smugly.
I'd consider that a good thing, actually.
"Huh?" Ankou blinked in confusion. "Why?"
Well, most of the dragons have human riders, and they'd prefer to have human mates too...I was kinda afraid in your true form, you'd scare all the males away...
Ankou looked indignant. "I would not...! Well-Anyway, I don't want to...do anything with a
human!" She sputtered.
Nafuloth was steadfastedly ignoring her as she flirted with the assembled males. Ankou glowered. "Well, at least not here, that's all I'm saying." She finally grumbled.
Fine then, we will go to the Old World, to a place called Blue Sky Weyr. They do not have any oddly-colored dragons there, much less a Ryslen Night, so I should stand out quite well there. Nafuloth said smugly. Ankou just muttered crossly to herself.
