| "Libbet" Libbet fell into the Underside from taking too much of an interest in the goings on of the residents of Brighton Below. No-one's quite sure of how and when this happened, but its seems she's stuck here now. She's a talented singer and makes her "living" in the World Above by performing t those who pay her attention |

| Law
Law is a most unusual man and many have noted that he has some strange abilities to force the truth from others people. It seems that he has been gifted in this strange manner to ensure that all rules are abided with, laws are kept and that the guilty are brought to justice. Law seems to be a somewhat fitting name all things considered, as he claims to be not human but rather born of Justice herself Hailed as the new Champion of Brighton Below |
| Some of the residents of Brighton Below |
![]() |
| Lord Alexander Preston
Lord Preston is the Head of the Noble House of Preston. will be attending with his retinue, though it is believed that Lady Preston is not well and has opted to rest for some time. |
| Hannington
The self-proclaimed King of the Bazaar, Hannington seems to have it in his head that he is the lord and master over the Floating Market. Whilst admittedly he generally has the largest and most impressive of the stalls, his dominance over the market has attracted the displeasure of many of the other smaller traders present. |

| Lord Gregory Kemp
Lord Kemp - Head of the Noble House of Kemp and above all, he admires those who can take their drink. He will probably wherever the alcohol is being served, or dice being thrown. He is a very pleasant fellow, but everyone knows that trouble follows the Kemps around like a bad smell and anyone standing near may end up being tarred with the same brush. |

| Yenta Granville
One of the friendliest residents of Brighton Below. Yentas stall is not just a place to trade, its a place to hang out. For some reason Yentas decided to live west of Lady Palmeiras domain, amongst the Juggs and Fishers. Whilst it means he gets the best catch of the day, he risks his life from staying in those areas. Hes a small time trader and information-monger, and makes his own ale apparently |

| Davigdor
Davigdor is the chief advisor and Weaver to Lord Severinus Roe, and some would say best friend. The exact origins of their friendship is not known though it is believed that Lord Roe did not know Davigdor in the World Above. Davigdor is know to be a man of little compassion, but of great skill in the art of weaving |
| Lord Severinus Roe
Lord Severinus is the Head of the Noble House of Roe. He often attends the market, mostly to trade, but in part to charm the ladies (as best as a Roe can) and to exchange harsh words with Lord Preston. Lord Roe has been taking a more gracious stance in this long term feud however |
|
Lady Madeleine Palmeira
Lady Palmeira is the head of the Noble House of Palmeira, and is known either as being the most gracious or the most venomous lady in all of Brighton Below. The Palmeiras all share the same ability to gain someones confidences, which has on occasion cost them dearly. Lady Palmeira is known to have a finger in every pie and for the right price can often make ones life much easier |
| Lord Oswald Palmeira
Lord Oswald is the son of Lady Madeleine Palmeira and the heir to the Palmeira family wealth, and was understandably disgruntled when at the death of his father that his mother decided to take control of the family instead of passing to him. He is however highly devoted to his mother and somewhat protective of her. He spends a lot of time with the Kemps; a matter which bothers Lady Palmeira no end considering how her husband met his end |

| Lady Isabella Roe
Lady Isabella is the eldest daughter of Lord Roe, and is believed to have been something of a prize. At least until the family were cursed. She has made it known that great riches await anyone who can remove the curse. Her hand in marriage and succession to Lord Severinus perhaps? |
| Coby
Coby is a loyal manservant in House Palmeira and personal bodyguard to Lady Aurora. Its believed that he is one of the oldest members of the Underside, as there are those who claim to remember him from many centuries ago. He was badly mauled in a combat some time ago, and the resulting scars have left him disfigured |
|
Lady Aurora Palmeira
Lady Aurora is the daughter of Lady Palmeira and her late husband Lord Clarence. She is kept under close watch by her mother (and her bodyguard) to ensure that she does not go the same way as her father and brother. She recently married a gentleman called Wilbury who took on the name of Palmeira at the insistence of Lady Palmeira |
| Patch Ann
A local Bravo and something of an outsider, but has gained notoriety in Brighton Below from rumours that she has clashed with the Black Lion of Brighton. Considering the Lion killed over two dozen men and women in her time, this is no mean feat to even survive to tell the tale. She lives somewhere north of Lord Prestons domains in the Downs. |
| Andy
Brighton Below has its fair share of lot causes. Andy is one of those, and he is very lost. It is said that in the World Above he was a great scientist but the revelations of the universe came to him in a dream which overloaded him, or that the Analysts got hold of him. Others just say he took too much of one of his own cocktails one evening and never recovered. He just seems to see things differently from everyone else |
|
Nameless No-one really knows much about Nameless, and some suspect that it doesnt know much more. It's believed to have passed away some time ago but that Death has not yet passed this way to collect it. Described by some as being a little irreverant, it likes to think of itself as something of an information broker and procurer of hard to acquire goods. Though it is known amongst the Flatlines, it does not claim to be allied to that Faction. (Unfortunately, not having a corporeal body, Nameless doesn't photgraph too well) |

| Lady Honey Kemp Lady Kemp is known to be one of Brighton Belows more outrageous and.....erm.....accomodating residents. Like her Uncle Gregory, she prefers the wilder side of life, and her passion for excesses in all its forms have earned her a reputation as one of the Undersides foremost party girls |
| Henry James Hamilton-Smythe "Born into a privileged position in the World Above Henry has fallen further than he could ever have imagined. Due to his constant drinking and gambling he is rapidly falling through the cracks in society. He resents the company he is forced to keep at the Markets but cannot resist coming back in the hopes that hell find some real antiques that would help him rebuild his life above and pay for the psychiatrists he knows he needs to rid himself of the imaginary demons who torment him, including a childhood friend who is more fiendish than friendly..." |
| Brother Vadas Brother Vadas seems to be somewhat lost within the Underside, and a little confused to boot. It seems as though he fell into te Underside completely by accident, and hasn't quite worked out where he is. It is though he was some kind of scholar in his "uplife", though the language barriers have made it difficult to truly understand his origins |
| Gold Smid
A craftsman of some repute, his items are somewhat sought after by the residents of the Underside. He normally has a varied and wide ranging stock to sell, and even a few Artefacts. By all accounts he is very close to his mother, who was a fine alchemist and brewer. Kinson Gulliver From an old noble house from outside of Brighton, his family were once believed to be an up and coming group, but for some reason they fell out of favour with the other residents of the Underside, and disappeared into obscurity. Kinson has a few war wounds and undoubtedly a few stories to tell. |
| Morley Morely is something of a secretive character, but apparently spend half his time in Lady Kemps gaming rooms, and the other half looking for something or someone. As a youngster he was apparently something of a tearaway though he claims to have put history behind him and is gaining a reputation as one of the Brighton Below's more respectable "citizens" |
| Isling Chatham Isli holds a position within the attendants of Bronze Court, namely that of the "under-under secretary to the High Badinagier". The Badinagier being the only member of the Bronze Courts attendants permitted to speak to the Angel of Peace. Isli can often be seen running errand round Brighton Below, passing on the word of the Angel and driving the statues of the Stone Court to distraction |
| Dawg Dawg is a somewhat pathetic creature. She seems to be under the impression that she is somehow related to our mans best friend, and her mannerisms and appearance are such that one could almost believe it. Her keenness of smell, and flea problem would also confirm that somewhere along the way, she has become something less than human |
| The Cleaner What would we do without The Cleaner? Brighton Below's junk, detritus and filth would be even greater than they are already without this stalwart character who wanders around, broom in hand sweeping away the discards of daily life in the Underside. No-one has really taken much time to get to know him, or his origins, even though he is one of Brighton Below's regular faces |
| Ma Borromore Famed for her numerous children almost as much as she is for abilities to find pretty much whatever you want in her rubbish piles, Ma Borromore was apparently a great beauty in her youth. Time it seems has taken its toll not only on her looks but on her sanity as well. That still doesn't stop her from being a popular member of the Juggs and of Brighton Below |
| Nizell Nizell is a bit of a strange one. His scrawlings and divinations are something of an attraction amongst the other residents of the Underside. No-one quite knows why he's here or how he got here, but it seems that he's on some kind of quest to find his way home. A friendly chap, but a little confused. Perhaps he has a greater tale to tell in the destiny of Brighton Below. Perhaps his casting will reveal that fate in due time? |
| Otto K Pas
A craftsman of sorts. It seems his speciality is to take the modern and make its the aesthetic, his wares being created by bits of circuits and electronics. With no real purpose in the Underside, his fantastic knick-knacks, jewellery and trinkets were all created by his hands. A regular at the Floating Market |
| Mister Mister what? Who knows? He appears to be too busy finding out the answers to everyone elses questions to find out the answer to his own. It appears that he was something of a success in the World Above, and no-one is quite sure what drove him to the Underside. He's been here a while though, having spent time in other cities before moving to Brighton Below. He is also reknowned as being something of an artist |
| Hack Not a journalist by any standards, the origins of his name are not clear. He seems to spend most of his time sifting through the innumerable amounts of discarded items found down here in the Underside. Hack is known to be acquainted with Mister and Otto K Pas, perhaps an old friend fom forgotten times? |
| Fresnel Fresnel seems to be trapped in a former age. It seems that time, and death for that matter passed him by. He's known for his photography and appreciation for art, so it seems that he seeks to capture beauty in other things. Perhaps he feels that by preserving an image in time that it mimics his own existence? |
| Harry Norfolk Harry is one of Brighton Below's Statuespeakers claiming fealty to the Bronze Court. He's often seen by the pier chatting away to the "Doughnut". Harry is unfortunately mute, so whilst his conversations with the inanimates desn't seem to be affected, talking to the other residents of the Underside can be a little difficult |
| Rosanna Dawson Miss Dawson appears to be a fortune teller of sorts. Never far from her cards, her predictions are uncannily accurate. No-one really knows how she slipped into the World Below, but she is often seen walking the seafront of the World Above, whilst Upworlders walk by oblivious |
| Connaught Connaught keeps himself to himself for the most part. His unassuming demeaor by all accounts hides a great deal of tragedy which he suffered in younger days. He is regarded quite highly with his access to knowledge, though one must speak face to face as he is sadly profoundly deaf |

| Grandma Brighton Belows newest addition. No-one knows much about her at all. Apart from her name |
| Photos's courtesy of Heather McDonald, Teece Fleming and Mark Wilkin. Other pictures courtesy of subjects |
| The Punch and Judy Man No-ones bothered to ask his name. He's just known as the Punch and Judy man. Unsurprisingly in the World Above, he used to do Punch and Judy shows. Until he went mad that is. Now he performs for the Underside |

| Lady Henriette Roe Henriette is another of Lord Kemps offspring, and is often seen in the company of Isabella, her elder sister, and heir to the Roe seat. Whilst the Roe family are incredibly close, one wonders how rivalries such as these are kept at bay. |
| Patchwork Patchwork is or rather used to be a doctor in the World Above. Seems that he's made himself a few enemies though, and whether deserved or not has something of a poor reputation in the Underside. Not sure whether his medicine is any good. |
