MY STORY
I have been obese now off and on for about 15 years (I am 30years of age. I first put a lot of weight on in my teens. Growing up in a poor family, I really got stuck into the coke, chocolates and Mcdonalds as soon as I started working after at the age of 14.

By the time I was 16 years old I weighed 118 kgs or 260 pounds. Im about 6'4 or about 195 cm so I didnt look too bad at this weight. I managed to get down to 91 kg (200 lbs) by the time I was 22 years old. I was playing representative basket ball and was extremely fit by this time.

Then in early 1995 I had a work place injury which stuffed my arm totally, so all the basket ball and surfing stopped. I was also working out at the gym prior to this. With no physio and sitting at home all day, I got fat. I couldnt drive as I had reconstructive surgery on my elbow and thus just drank all day with my mates getting depressed about my health and not being able to work.

After six months and 20kgs (45 lbs) I returned to work. I was in a stressfull job and didnt look after my diet much. I hated walking and swimming. I loved sport but couldnt do the regular stuff any more.

By the time I was 25 years old I was 130kgs. Thats when I got too tired and lethargic. Excercise is so much harder when youre carrying 40 kgs (90 lbs) of excess baggage with you. You get swellings and injuries so easy. Before long I was on anti inflamitaries and anti depressants..

Not sure of the exact cause. I think it was a bit of everything but I ballooned to 176.5 kg's (390 lbs) Inactivity, calming drugs, career, excess weight, yoyo dieting. both partners working and no time to prepare nutritious meals = OBESITY! Its a fact!!!

I tried all the diets. Atkins, weight watchers, cabbage soup, optifast, prescription pills and herbs. Nothing worked long term because I always got hungry.
