A Few Reasons Why I Hate McCain

I am proud to be a Republican; I have been a Republican since my elementary school days, dating back to the election of President Ronald Reagan, the best President this country has ever had. I will just go ahead and tell you that I am very right-wing in my beliefs, so I don't agree with every single thing in the Republican platform (although, by and large, my beliefs are in line with the standard Republican beliefs) and I certainly don't agree with everything certain Republican leaders espouse. This brings me to John McCain. Never have I disagreed with a Republican on so many issues. The more I see and hear McCain, the more worried I become about the future of the GOP; I have no idea how supposed Republicans can support a man who reminds me, in his beliefs and actions, of none other than Slick Willie, a man who is basing a large part of his campaign on a campaign finance reform proposal that is 1) unconstitutional, 2) a heinous assault on the rights granted us in the Bill of Rights, and 3) a mechanism for destroying the Republican party.

McCain is not a Republican. He can say he is, but he is not. His campaign, as long as it continues (which won't be very long, I predict), is the most dangerous threat to the stability of the GOP that I have seen in my lifetime. Let me quickly expound on some of the things I am talking about here--soon, I hope to have a better, more complete assessment of the issues I have with McCain.

First, let's compare McCain to Clinton. The first thing we must ask ourselves in this vein is: Can this man be trusted? The answer is no, my friends. Let's look at McCain and the abortion issue; here we can see the kind of waffling and misrepresentation of the facts made famous by our current President. McCain has long portrayed himself as a pro-life candidate and Senator, explicitly stating his desire to have Roe v. Wade overturned on the Congressional Candidate Questionnaire he completed, signed, and sent to the National Right to Life Committee in mid-1998 (there are other statements he made to this effect, as well). Let's look at his voting record, shall we? In the early 90s, he voted several times in opposition to President Bush's policy prohibiting federal funding of experimentation using tissue taken from aborted babies. In the last year or so, his statements on the issue of abortion are becoming more and more contradictory and incomprehensible. He began saying he was pro-life in a moral sense, and that he wants to change the climate that is contributing to the number of babies being aborted each year rather than overturn Roe v. Wade. Douglas Johnson of the NRLC explain's McCain's position more eloquently than I can: "IN EFFECT, MCCAIN SAID THAT HE WOULDN'T SUPPORT OVERTURNING ROE BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL WANTED ABORTIONS, BUT IF AT SOME FAR FUTURE DATE PEOPLE DIDN'T 'NEED' ABORTIONS ANYMORE AND ROE WAS THEREFORE 'IRRELEVANT,' THEN AT THAT POINT IT WOULD BE OKAY WITH HIM TO OVERTURN IT." This is fence-straddling of Clintonesque proportions. It gets worse, though. What was Douglas Johnson referring to when he mentioned this idea McCain has that abortions are "NEEDED" at this time in America? Take a look at this: McCain made the statement that, while he has always wanted to see the Roe v. Wade decision overturned, he feels that the decision cannot be overturned until the numbers of abortions being done in this country decrease drastically (which he says he would somehow accomplish in a McCain America). I certainly would like to see an America with less demand for abortions, but waiting for that to happen some magical day will not save the millions of children who will die horrible deaths inside the wombs of the women they were unfortunate enough to have as mothers. Here's the clincher, in McCain's own words: "IF ROE V. WADE WERE REPEALED TOMORROW, IT WOULD FORCE THOUSANDS OF YOUNG WOMEN TO UNDERGO DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL OPERATIONS." McCain is actually arguing that the Roe v. Wade decision cannot be overturned in the near future because abortions are "NECESSARY" (my quotes) in America, that without legalized abortion, many women would be "FORCED" to seek dangerous illegal abortions. He doesn't stop here. He has even gone so far as to accuse pro-life activists of being so outspoken and unceasing in their anti-abortion efforts for the sole purpose of raising money. John McCain thinks that pro-life activists do what they do because of greed, not out of concern for the millions of babies being aborted every year. Furthermore, McCain says, their hard efforts at saving the lives of innocent children are largely responsible for violent anti-abortion acts like the bombing of abortion clinics. This is not a pro-life argument, folks, and John McCain, no matter what he says, is not a pro-life candidate. Here's another quick comparison of McCain to Clinton. When a newspaper in his own home state of Arizona published an article about McCain's alleged bad temper, he responded in true Clintonesque fashion--he accused the newspaper, a newspaper that had endorsed him time and again in his previous political campaigns in that state, of long exhibiting some kind of "VENDETTA" against him.

On to campaign finance reform. This whole issue is ridiculous. Here we are arguing all the time about a topic that no one other than the media cares about and which cannot possibly amount to any type of reform because McCain's proposed bill is wholly unconstitutional. I won't go into the technicalities of it right now (but I will soon), but the proposed legislation would be thrown out by the Supreme Court in a matter of seconds because it totally goes against the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. With this bill, McCain wants to destroy the Republican party, as well, by depriving it of the funds it needs to wage war on the Democrats (who will get their money from unions all the while, anyway--as well as Red China); McCain doesn't want you exposed to the ideas or opinions of real Americans like Pat Robertson, the members of the NRA, the members of pro-life organizations, etc. McCain doesn't want you to be exposed to any ideas other than those of the liberal news media because he, like the Democrats, has no respect for the individual and does not count the average American as intelligent enough to make his/her own decision when he/she is alone in the voting booth exercising the precious right to vote; he wants you to vote for the candidates the news media tell you to vote for. This whole campaign finance reform idea is no more than a manufactured issue by the liberal news media to gain total control over what each American thinks. Think about the consequences of such reform--who would be hurt? Those groups supporting conservative issues--that is who would be hurt, along with America itself and the democratic freedoms we claim to honor so much. McCain has sold his soul to the media, folks, and that is why they are giving him so much coverage and continually stuffing this unworkable campaign finance reform business down our throats day in and day out. Americans are too smart for this type of manipulation, Senator McCain, and that is why you will never be elected President. And by the way, Senator, get out of my Republican party--you do not belong here.
