| The
Esir were not the only Gods the Norsemen worshiped, in fact they were not
the only deities living in the skies.
People believed that also existed the Vanas, the Gods in control of the seas, oceans and winds. According to the tradition a time before Midgard was built the Vanas and the Esirs were in war but both being good, kind gods they decided to stop the confrontation and live in peace. So the Esirs built Asgard from themselves and the Vanas built Vana-heim. Afterwards their disputes end up transforming in friendship mainly because all of them were somehow related and that's why Niörd the Vana chosed Asgard to live so he could be near to his children (Frey and Freya) and Hoenir, brother of Odin chosed Vana-heim to be his home. |
