| While
the Gods were busy creating the Sun and Moon, the day and the night, the
Summer and Winter, a horde of horrible worm type creatures had been
breeding on the flesh of Ymir. This unpleasant creatures were soon noticed
by the Gods and convoked to come to their presence. First the Gods gave
them shape and an extraordinary intelligence and then noticing that there
were two distinct types of beings. One type being gentle, kind and
friendly and the other obscure, treacherous and evil. To the beings of the
first type the Gods called them elfs or fairies and build them kingdom
situated between sky and earth called Alf-heim. The elfs could come to the
Earth when they wanted to to take care of the plants, play with the
butterflies or to dance in the gardens in the moonlight.The second type
were condemned to live on caves below the surface on a kingdom named Svart-alfaheim.
They were named dwarfs and only allowed to get out at night otherwise they
would be turned into stone. The dwarfs used their time to explore the
underground, they would collect gold, silver and gems (sometimes they
would get it by finding it while digging a new cave and others robbing it
- their favourite hobbie).
It was by this time that Odin, the leader of the Gods (the 12 Esirs) ordered them to build a city named Asgard which would become the Home of the Gods. Inside the city limits no violence could be held and the harmony would exist for eternity. |
