Mani and Sun

This is the Myth of the Creation of the Day/Night, Sun/Moon

To support the celestial vault, the Gods ordered the 4 powerful Dwarfs - Nordri (North), Sudri (South), Austri (East) and Westri (West) to hold up the four corners of the world on their shoulders. To light the Universe by creating the stars, they took millions of sparks from Muspells-heim and filled the Universe with them. Finally with the most intense and shinny sparks they build the Sun and the Moon, and craftsmen where also asked to build a magnificent gold car for the sun and a silver one for the moon.

When everything was ready including the choice of the horses, the Gods started looking for drivers.
The sons of giant Mundilfari got their attention. Mani (the moon) and Sun (the sun) and his wife Glaur (the glow)  were elected to drive the celestial cars and we can tell that day after day they've done their work well.

Afterwards, the Gods asked Nott (the night) to drive the Black Car of Night pulled by Hrim-faxi, the black horse. This deity was married 3 times. With her first husband she had a son, with the second a girl named Jörd (Earth), and with the third she had two sons: Dellinger (Dawn) and Dag (Day). Dag was wonderfully beatiful and soon as the Gods noticed his presence and his beauty they offered him a car pulled by a lovely white horse named Skin-faxi so he could spread his beauty, his joy and light thru all the World.
