Where does the Tarot come from?
ANSWER: There are several theories, some of them seem very reasonable but then again only they're theories and no one knows for sure. There are evidences of the use of Tarot Cards on the second half of the 14th Century in France, Italy and Germany but who draw the first Cards and with what purpose it's still a big mistery.
QUESTION: How can I choose a deck? ANSWER: Choosing a deck is a vey important task. You have to see which deck appeals more to you subconscious. The deck must be able to "talk" to you and it's important that you feel a connection between you and the cards. There's a lot of Tarots available so take you time considering which one do you find more pretty and close to your nature.
QUESTION: Do I have to memorize the meaning of each card to do a reading? ANSWER: At the beginning maybe but learning to use Tarot is like learning to speak a new language and you have to study the symbols and instinctively know what each card wants to tell in a reading.
QUESTION: What's the best way to get familiarized with the Tarot cards? ANSWER: I suggest you pick up a card at random and start studying it, associate it with what the card makes you feel, slowly you will become familiar with the symbols and the meaning of the card. For example, my ideas associated with "The Sun" are light, power, vitality, energy, optimism, joy, prosperity and that's basically the meaning of the card.
QUESTION: Can I use Tarot cards to help me meditate? ANSWER: Of course, it's indeed a good exercise. For example if you need help sorting out a difficult dilema why not meditate on the "Lovers" card, and if you are in need of strenght and optimism why not pick up "The Sun" card or if you feel depressed or anxious why not think about "The Moon" card and its meaning? Even if you don't have a specific problem or question, Tarot cards have always a message to give and something to teach.
QUESTION: Does the Tarot have a connection with the Tree of Life? ANSWER: Yes it does. The paths that connect every sphere with another are the essence of the meaning of the card that rule that path. There are also several readings that use the Tree of Life scheme.
QUESTION: Can we divide Tarot Cards into good ones and bad ones? ANSWER: There's no such thing as good Tarot cards and bad Tarot Cards. Every card teach us something and even the "bad" ones have always a very optimistic posture. Remember Tarot Cards give advice and do not determine your future.
QUESTION: Does the "Death" card really means physical death? ANSWER: No, Death card reflects only the end of things that no longer have need to stay in our life because they are no longer useful to us. It recommends a rebirth to life, to a new life free of all the stagnated influences of the past.
QUESTION: Does my state of mind influence the reading? ANSWER: My experience tells me it does. This is of course my opinion but I think Tarot Cards use the reader's energy so it isn't wise to read the Tarot cards if you feel anxious, nervous or distressed. Calm down first and then do the readings.
QUESTION: Can I read the Tarot Cards for others? ANSWER: Yes, of course but be sure the person you're reading for is receptive to the Tarot Cards. Tarot readings shouldn't be tranformed into a game or a joke. Don't try to read the Tarot Cards for someone that is not physically present while you're doing it because the Cards need also to received the consultant energies. |
