Sure he may come off as a sadistic evil creep. And he did hurt Rei badly. But he was used like a puppet. I see Bryan as a lost soul, seeking someone to truly care for him. I believe whole-heartedly that he would regain his humanity if he was to get away from Boris and the Abbey, and find someone to care for. It is my intuition that behind the coldness, and the cruelness, lies a gentle spirit.
