Chiyo Mihama is a ten year old child prodigy from a wealthy family whose genius granted her the opportunity to bypass the end of elementary and all of junior high school to go on to attend high school as a first year student. Frighteningly, despite her age, Chiyo-chan is still smarter than all of her fellow classmates when it comes to academics, and more mature and organized as well, most of the time. While her intelligence is first rate, there are many instances that arise where her intellect offers her no help in subjects such as athletics, which can almost be as traumatic as riding in the Yukari-mobile.
While Chiyo-chan may be a genius, skipping five grades, she is still only ten years old, and there are plenty of instances when her childish naivety and innocence show through. Because of these moments and her charmingly cute demeanor, Chiyo-chan has become the unofficial mascot of the class.
