Meat Head: Hello my fellow horror heathens.  Recently I crawled from the grave to ask the real McCoy of Terror some ghoulish questions about his dark obsession with the horror genre.

Meat Head: It's finally nice to meat you my fiendish friend.  Why don't you start by explaining your twisted love for horror.

Robert: Like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Ronald Kelly, Richard Laymon, John Carpenter, Robert McCammon, Charles Grant, and Norman Bates, I have harbored a dark fascination for the scream factor.  When reading horror fiction or watching a creepy monster movie with plenty of chills and thrills, I have always had delicious fun.  I'm a fiend for suspense.

Meat Head: So you grew up on this stuff?

Robert: You bet I did!  I can remember watching great old movies such as the 1931
Dracula, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Wherewolf and Abbot and Costello meat Frankenstien. I couldn't get enough of these creepy monsters.  Such actors as Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney (Sr. and Jr.), Dwight Frye, among my favorites, quickly became my best friends.  I mean, who could forget Christopher Lee's menacing bloodshot gaze in all those Hammer films.

Meat Head: What is your favorite horror novel?

Robert: That's really a difficult question to answer since I have literally read hundreds of horror novels and short stories.  However, Stephen King's
Pet Sematary ranks a tie as number one along with Dean Koontz's Watchers.  I can't remember reading anything else that scared me more then those two masterpieces.  It is quite apparent these two authors know the right ingrediants for what truly scares their fans.

Meat Head: Why do you enjoy wtiting short horror stories?

Robert: Simply, to entertain.  With each new story I write, I can only hope to tap into different fears.  I love putting ordinary characters in extrodinary situations.  And lets face it, I want to scare the jelly beans out of the reader.  I strongly believe fear is our great emotion.  I will never forget back in high school when my teacher read my first short horror story to the class.  It was a piece called
Waiting iFor Darkness in Room 306.  The scared expressions on my classmates faces was priceless.  From that moment on, I knew I wanted to write horror fiction.

Meat Head: What is your favorite Horror film?

Robert:  Like books, I've watched countless horror and science fiction movies.  Of all that I've seen, two movies are tied as my favorite.  Ironically, both were made by John Carpenter:
Halloween and The Thing.  These two films have all the dark and creepy elements I expect to see in such films.  Carpenter choked us with suspense in Halloween and disgusted us with the gruesome effects of the creature that was The Thing.  Plus, whenever Carpenter has teamed up with Kurt Russell, it's double the pleasure! Carpenter films just have this certain dark feeling to them, especially in Prince Of Darkness.

Meat Head:  What is your ultimate goal in the horror genre?

Robert:  Ultimately, to become a published writer.  To see something I've written actaully in print would be thrilling!

Meat Head:  Why did you create Dark Element 13?

Robert:  Dark Element 13 is my homage to the horror genre.  It is a place where I - along with others - may express their thoughts about the scream factor.  We can talk about creepy movies, horror stories, or just exchange e-mail with others.  Think of Dark Element 13 as Halloween 365 days and nights a year.  As Dracula would say, "I bid you welcome".
