Mother of One
Her childhood fear had been to be stopped from doing what she wanted. Shed play with a dedicated vigor with any and all toys offered and some that werent, scared that theyd be taken away. She was a Daddys girl and Daddy was the center of her universe. She did everything the way he did, even when she didnt realize it. Even when it got her into trouble. When she got older, she realized that when she paid attention to his practices and did well in school, it made Daddy proud of her, so she studied hard to become a lawyer.

She didnt now that anything else could be better. But a poor farm boy from Smallville, a town that lived up to its name, was the first one she focused on outside of Daddy. And when he hadnt agreed with her marriage to Jonathan, she had felt her heart wrench more than any other time at her life. She did what she wanted though, because it had felt like it was right. Like it was happily ever after, and thought that maybe someday her father would come around and they would all get along. She was sure of it, in fact.

Until Clark.

Martha smiled softly at the half-peeled green apple in her hand. Clark was happily ever after and if it meant that she had to keep him safe from everyone, even Daddy, that was okay. That was more than okay. Her biggest fear now was that someone would find Clarks ship in the storm-cellar.

Ryan was a sweet kid, but she didn't know if he could handle that. If, that is, they didn't find an actual family for him to go to. She didn't mind staying a mother of one.
